jessicadiane65
Just ran uT for the first time in three weeks. As soon as it came up I received an automatic update notification. I accepted the update and restarted the application. And then all hell broke loose.Along with the "update" I got hit with all kinds of PITA adware. It took me over an hour and a half to clean all the crap off.I don't know if uT has decided to use this as a method of income, if the adware bastards have hacked your upgrade server, or if some other nonsense has happened. All I know is that I deleted the uT along with the adware and I'll leave it deleted until I can get a number of reliable and external reports that this crap is cleaned up.I'm posting this message not to flame anyone. I'm posting it because if uT has been compromised I want to admins and other users to know about it. Shame, because I was really impressed with the whole uT project before this happened. I hope to get back to that place.-Jessica
DreadWingKnight
Your own system is likely compromised. If not, your ISP's is.uTorrent itself is adware free.
Ultima
The auto-update feature isn't so easily compromised either, as a digital signature of sorts is required for the update to work (and only select people have the requisite information). If the update server were compromised, we would've gotten many more reports of this by now. Dunno :/And just for the record, I just tried auto-updating from 1.7.2 to 1.7.4, and found nothing out of the ordinary on my system (yes, I know how to keep my system clean). I'm not sure if you'd believe me (since I've been a long time member of the community and whatnot), but all I know is, my system's still uncompromised after performing an auto-update just a minute ago. Firon
The problem lies on your end. The server can be compromised all someone wants, but if downloaded through the automatic updater, unless it's signed with the private key (which all of 2 people have), the update will fail.Considering no one else has seen it but you, the problem lies with your own computer.
