Stefan1971HH
Hello,I'd like to tune my win xp pro system by deactivating the services I don't need (start->run->"services.msc")Question : are there any experiences which ones are needed for µtorrent to connect and work properly?I found out that it doesnt work with only "dhcp client" and "telephony" enabled. Its nearly impossible to find out which ones are necessary just by trying and disabling some, because there would be millions of possible combinations.thanks,Stefan
Firon
If you don't know what the services do, you really shouldn't be messing with them.
Stefan1971HH
for most of them their names are self - explaining or information can be found on www.I'm just nor sure which of the quite many network and internet - related services are necessary for µtorrent.I tried some service configurations that are known as fail-safe and leave a stable system. But working under these conditions µtorrent showed the yellow triangle for network problems, though still reached upload rates of 100 KB/s and and downs of 70 KB/s.thanks,Stefan
Ultima
µTorrent doesn't explicitly rely on any specific service. Whatever services are needed for your internet connection to work properly are needed for µTorrent to work properly (naturally) -- that's all. Stefan1971HH
Hello,at least if I get the green triangle depends on which services are activated. In some combinations of services internet connection was ok, but no green triangle appeared. But, as I said, I had acceptable rates nevertheless. Does this mean yellow triangle not necessarily indicates theres a real problem?thanks,Stefan
Robbbert
I don't take any notice of the triangle at all. As long as data is flowing in both directions is all I care about. As for your services, as long as the Internet works (IE / Firefox), that's all you need. For example, you need DNS, Telephony and the various RPC services. As for DHCP, due to a not-very-well-known security bug, I leave it off. You only needto define your IP address and DNS servers in your network settings.
Ultima
http://bt.degreez.net/firewalled.htmlYou should care about firewall issues. That's my list of services. It's a very barebones service profile, and µTorrent still runs perfectly well. Again, µTorrent does not rely on any specific Windows service.
