UPnP vs Portforwarding

Ever since I discarded port forwarding (still using static ip, though, and I've used it with several different routers) and started using UPnP, my downloads are exceedingly fast! I'm using a VT2442 router.

My Wan setting is is DHCP enabled, Nat enabled, Firewall disabled.

In Advanced settings I've checked Allow Incoming Ping, and enabled the DMZ with my static IP address. I haven't had to forward any port, and my BT is rocking my socks off!

Is it just the VT2442 router is UPnP friendly, or is portforwarding in general all that important to begin with?

Well, I figured things out and am flying high now. See my post http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=28203

I'm more worried about my upload speeds than my download. Anyway, I changed my static ip per http://portforward.com/networking/static-xp.htm Apparently, it helps to have them find the static ip address you should use. So far, no nat problems.
