UTorrent Problems and Zonealarm

I had the same problem that others are having with UTorrent - i.e. suddenly out of the blue it just stops working and all the arrows turn to red.

I uninstalled and re-installed to no effect, installed Azeurus and Bitcomet and even those failed to work so clearly this fault had effected the system.

In the end I uninstalled and re-installed my Zonealarm free version along with Bitcomet and hey presto it was all fine.

As an experiment I took out Bitcomet and went back to UTorrent and the problem reoccurred.

If you have the free Zonealarm version and have experienced this problem I reckon the only option is to dump UTorrent.

People have reported varying results with Outpost, Comodo and Sygate here.

If you have a router (like I do), you have over 90% of the protection that a software firewall has without any of the computer resource drain, since the hard part for a malicious program is to get to your system. By the time a malicious program has reached your system, it's too late for a software firewall to protect you anyway.

My computer has Windows firewall installed and I'm also running Norton Anti-Virus software. I had no problem running utorrent till an hour ago. DHT is showing 0 nodes and says waiting to log in. When I click on run test speed or test port, nothing happens. When I type something in the search field and hit enter, nothing happens. Help please.

I had the same sort of issue - utorrent and zone alarm worked fine until the hd crashed. After a rebuild, zone alarm caused any torrent client to freeze the computer whenever seeding was attempted. The only way out was to UNINSTALL zone alarm. Sygate was recommended and it works fine - and so does utorrent.

Visit any forum and they will all say the same thing - get rid of zone alarm.

ZoneAlarm now works fine with uTorrent. I was using version 7.0.337.000 and for some reason the automatic update kept telling me that this was the latest version until I found out that this was not the latest version. I have downloaded the latest version 7.0.462.000 released on Nov 20th 2007. Before using both uTorrent and ZoneAlarm, I couldn't really do much else and internet access was very slow. Now it's as if ZoneAlarm was not even running. This update has also solved a slew of other problems with system sluggishness.

Check your version of ZoneAlarm to make sure you have the latest. You can check this and download the latest by going to the following page: http://www.zonealarm.com/store/content/ … db_updates

Very important: go to the bottom of the page to the "Update Now" section and select the ZoneAlarm Product you have. This will lead you to the differents versions and links for downloading them manually, hence bypassing the automatic update in ZoneAlarm.
