JRaspass
Just wondering how big the file size of utorrent has been in the past and wether its increasing or decreasing. Obviously by adding new features the file size will go up, but I was wondering if there are any ongoing attempts to keep it slim and maybe even reduce it furthur. vurlix
The file size has been increasing slightly with each version. We are doing our best to keep it as small as possible, and finding new ways to do it.
JRaspass
Even with slight increases to filesize it would be a very long time before it took over anouther bit torrent client in size but its still nice to keep it small, so to that extent I was wondering wether some of the optional extras (ie the sound played in the about dialog) could be removed or could a lite version be released. vurlix
Most of the extras use very little space. The animation and sound in the about box is generated on the fly and the code for it takes very little space. That said, it could be funny to see how small we could make it by stripping out features... But it wouldn't be worth it, really.
JRaspass
thanks for the info, i had no idea it was done like that. I simply thought it was an embedded midi or wav file
r00ted
Or....just design a sort of "plugin" system for uTorrent? So, people can keep a "stripped down" client, and if they want peerguardian/safepeer type filtering, global bandwidth limits, schedules, etc, they could download separate plugins? That could keep the size down quite a bit.

UTorrentUser
Also, it would allow for much greater customaztiong and functionality. People would have more control over what they wanted IN, not just what, their torrent.

okasvi
would be nice but i like how it is compact and all features in 1 executable... no dlls etc.
Guest
I second okasvi's view. The simplicity to running uTorrent is irresistable!I think the key word here is FOOTPRINT. As long as that is kept at a minimum I don't really care about counting bytes. Just do your best as you have!
Martin
As long as it stays under 100KB, I'm happy
ScubaSteve
im very happy with the client at the moment . the only features i woul like to see incoporated would be an rss reader with a favourite Rss feeds list that can be stored in and ini and DHT
