m021478 Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 I think that the uTorrent manual/Help file should be made more evident than it currently is...I wasn't able to find it until I posted a forum question about it and a moderator responded with the help file location in his signature...I think that the top item in the uTorrent FAQ section should be "Where can I find the program's help file to learn more about the finer details of the program interface?"I know you'll probably respond back to this post with something like, "Well, the help file is easily accessible from __X__ location" - but the fact is that I have been scouring the forums for the past several days searching for answers to a number of questions, and it seems to me, based on the number of forum posts asking specifics that can easily be found in the help file, that I am not the only one that had problems locating it...Just a suggestion...Thanks!
Firon Posted October 8, 2007 Report Posted October 8, 2007 It's on the download page. Says "Help File."
hermanm Posted October 9, 2007 Report Posted October 9, 2007 How about an online version of the Help file? Underneath FAQ you could have a link to the online Help file.Is it a bandwidth issue to not have the help file online? Or included in the download file? If that's not possible, make the Help file link bigger. Its really small in the download section. If more than a few people are asking about, its obvious many are missing the fact that a download link for Help file exists.
m021478 Posted October 10, 2007 Author Report Posted October 10, 2007 I completely agree...The Help file was not included with the download, so my first instinct was to check the website, which made apparent three options for help1) FAQ2) Guides3) ForumsTo find the help file, one has to look deeper and read the fine print (e.g. the body text)...I've noticed that Firon Adminstrator has multiple forum posts that read:____________________________________http://download.utorrent.com/utorrent-help.zipPlease read the rules before posting - it makes my life a little easier. ____________________________________Firon's response was the only way I ever found the help file...So I took his advice and moved on to reading the forum 'Rules'...Maybe I am stupid, but there is nothing on them that speaks of the Help File that I had asked about...Firon's multiple forum posts would imply that he obviously has some boilerplate text stored somewhere that he has created in order to expedite his responses to, what he feels, should be 'known' facts about the program and/or its capabilities...Sorry if this comes off a bit brash, but maybe you could make your life easier (instead of making your forum participants feel stupid) by making the help file a little more apparent than it currently is...I am not alone in feeling that its not as easily discoverable as it should be...PS...I love your program and think you guys rock! - So please don't take offense to this suggestion
Firon Posted October 10, 2007 Report Posted October 10, 2007 post______sigAnd we're already planning what to do with the help file.
Ultima Posted October 12, 2007 Report Posted October 12, 2007 lol Firon must be doing something wrong if so many people have mistaken his signature to be a part of his post... xD
Honeyfrog Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 If the average user looks at the Help more than 1 time per version of uTorrent, then the bandwidth load on the servers is greater than by simply incorporating the text file in each released version of uTorrent.
hermanm Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 They could always make the Help file into HTML and make it a permanent set of web pages.
Firon Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 Sure is. The CHM will still exist, but there will be an online version (and it'll be the new help link in the help menu, with the FAQ moved to another entry).
