ilikeitsimple Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 I was downloading a torrent earlier today and accidentally rammed in 2-3 letters in the "Save As" field and then hit enter. The torrent was succesfully downloaded and I went to my original download directory and it wasnt there. Big surprise. This has never happened to me before so Im a little confused. I have checked the most common places and cannot find the directory to which the torrent was downloaded to.The strange thing is that I have lost disc space on C:\ even though a complete search after the torrent was unsuccessful. So now im not sure what to do. Im hoping that someone has the answer to this and perhaps can help me.Thanks.
Firon Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 Click on the torrent and look at the Save As field in the General tab.
ilikeitsimple Posted October 13, 2007 Author Report Posted October 13, 2007 The unfortunate thing is that I deleted the torrent from the list when it was finished, as I always do.
Firon Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 Check your desktop and then the folder the .exe is in. Failing that, try checking %AppData%\uTorrent
ilikeitsimple Posted October 13, 2007 Author Report Posted October 13, 2007 The directory wasnt on my desktop and not in %AppData%\uTorrent either.
wyrmchild Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 Searching the compy for files with the last modified date around the time you deleted it might work, and also limiting the search to files of similar size as the one you downloaded.E.g. search for files larger than 100 MB and that were modified in the last 1-2 days. It's easy to accomplish, really.I also tried the thing, and the directory was saved in the same dirctory as utorrent.exe resides in.
ilikeitsimple Posted October 13, 2007 Author Report Posted October 13, 2007 I already did a search and I didnt find anything. I tried to do it again, this time taking a smaller torrent and just typing a couple of letters in the "Save as" field. And after it starts downloading I rightclick and chose "Open Containing Folder..." and "My Computer" comes up with no signage of the map. But my main harddrive has lost disc space which proves that something was stored. I just dont know where. And the folder is not in "C:\Program\uTorrent\".
Firon Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 Run Filemon so you can see where it's reading/writing to.
ilikeitsimple Posted October 13, 2007 Author Report Posted October 13, 2007 Hmm, this is wierd. Filemon told me that the torrent/folder (which I did the same thing as with the first one) is being placed in %AppData%\uTorrent but I cant find the other folder there. I just dont understand it. Its completely gone. But still it has snatched disc space. :/
Firon Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 you don't see any folders in there at all?
ilikeitsimple Posted October 13, 2007 Author Report Posted October 13, 2007 None. Except when I did the test with downloading another torrent that was a folder. Then a folder showed up. I dont know why the first one didnt.
