blizeH Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 Hi guys,I've been having problems with my uTorrent for quite a while now, I'm not sure if it's my PC, my settings, my router or my ISP but needless to say I'm going to change the latter two ASAP because it's becoming a bit of a nightmare.I generally find however that restarting uTorrent a number of times can suddenly make it start working at more respectable speeds again (not sure why this is) but I've just gone a little bit mad adding an absolute load of torrents and now it's just downloading at 0kb/s and uploading at 0kb/s too, so I guess I've somehow managed to overload it somehow.Anyway, enough waffle (sorry!), it seems pausing them for a bit doesn't have much effect since it's still checking for their seeds and peers, so is there anyway to completely disable these for a bit? I would remove them and re-add them, but in all honesty I'd be there forever remembering which ones I need to re-add.Cheers
wyrmchild Posted October 13, 2007 Report Posted October 13, 2007 Stop the torrent, there's button for it: the large red square with white outline. I don't think it helps though, and I find it rather questionable that restarting uTorrent helps.Actually, if restarting uTorrent helps, then the problem is likely too many connections, lower the connection limits, please. 300 global max is good and going over 20 per torrent is useless (I personally use 12 connections per torrent). And some other stuff. Depending on your connection speed, even these may be too high.
blizeH Posted October 13, 2007 Author Report Posted October 13, 2007 Ah yes! Thank you, I often overlook those top buttons and just use the context menu, but that looks pretty neat. Not sure why restarting it has any effect, but it'll run at about 5k from the offset, and I'll restart it and again it won't go above 5k, and again, and again... then suddenly I'll restart and it'll run at a reasonable speeds, it'd odd. Many thanks for the connection limiting thing, I've currently got it set to 125/25 but will change it to 150/12 and see if that's any better, thanks!

blizeH Posted October 13, 2007 Author Report Posted October 13, 2007 Tried all those thank you, with no luck I'm afraid
Switeck Posted October 14, 2007 Report Posted October 14, 2007 Net.max_halfopen probably should be lowered to 1-4.
blizeH Posted October 14, 2007 Author Report Posted October 14, 2007 Cheers, it is set to 4 at the moment, should I set it to even lower than that?
Switeck Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 Try setting it to 1...and running for a couple hours.Have you also disabled DHT, UPnP, and resolve ips?
blizeH Posted October 15, 2007 Author Report Posted October 15, 2007 Going to try that now, many thanks.Where is the resolve IPs thing though? I can't seem to find it in the menus. Thanks again
Switeck Posted October 15, 2007 Report Posted October 15, 2007 On an active torrent, right-click in the PEERS window at bottom and uncheck Resolve IPs.
