Dumb question for the day

I have 2 computers both running uTorrent over very slow internet connections. I load exactly the same torrent files onto both machines and leave them downloading over the internet for a few days. Since they are switched on at different times of day they end up with different fragments of each partially completed torrent.

Every week or so I connect the 2 computers together using a LAN. I had expected uTorrent on each computer to recognise the other machine as a peer and for them to synchronise any partially downloaded data they have, using the LAN rather than uploading/downloading using the internet.

Is this what should happen and, if so, any suggestions as to why it's not working? The machines have non-conflicting IP addresses and can perform normal file and printer sharing.

Have you got local peer discovery on?

I don't have either machine with me to confirm, but if it's not on by default then no. Having googled it, that looks exactly like my problem. Thanks for the info.
