Initial-Seeding Problem

I have created a torrent and uploaded it to a public site. I have got several friends to download the torrent, but they are unable to download the data. I have had one peer able to connect (not a friend) and he has managed to download 0.7% of the 35mb torrent over the course of one hour. Also, it says that seeders = 0.

Do you know what may be going wrong?

Your ISP may be blocking/throttling BitTorrent traffic.

Your computer's networking software and hardware may be severely firewalling µTorrent.

There could even be viruses or spyware "at play" on your computer that's interfering with µTorrent.

Have you tried Ultima's Troubleshooting Guide?:

http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992

Have you changed any of µTorrent's advanced settings?

We may need a HijackThis! log (3rd party diagnostic program) if nothing else helps.

Cheers Switeck. I'm with a reputable ISP who, by all indications, does not throttle BitTorrent traffic. Other torrents which I am not initial-seeding run smoothly and achieve upload speeds of 200kB/s if I let them (Annex M ADSL 2+). Yes, Ultima's guide was my frame of reference when initially setting up uTorrent - and thus my general torrents (like freely available classical music) run as expected to on my connection.

Alexander_Q,

I am wary of BTOs, so this may be a problem even though it claims 'file missing':

Norton has caused all kinds of conflicts for a lot of people...you may need to test µTorrent with it uninstalled.

This seems to be an internet usage monitoring program:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [internodeUsage] C:\PROGRA~1\INTERN~2\mum.exe

This might remotely be causing µTorrent problems...Can you test µTorrent without it?

(Just keep track of how much bandwidth you use!)

Apple's Bonjour has been reported by a few people to cause 100% CPU usage for no good reason:

O23 - Service: Bonjour Service - Apple Computer, Inc. - C:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exe

What I found on Bonjour:

http://www.neuber.com/taskmanager/process/mdnsresponder.exe.html

PunkBuster anti-cheat, added by games like Battlefield Earth 2 and Call of Duty 2, seems to have teething issues as well:

O23 - Service: PnkBstrA - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\PnkBstrA.exe

Do you know why these are there?: (Java-related stuff?)

Serious troubleshooting is almost always tedious and slow, even if you don't run into any problems...so good luck!

(An example problem might be you uninstall Bonjour ...and your computer refuses to connect to the internet again. Not saying that will happen, nor do I think it likely, only that it would suck.)
