Romero Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 I would appreciate it if anybody interested in helping could read my post thoroughly, as I know the immediate response without understanding the full problem will be to automatically suggest port forwarding or a firewall issue, of which neither appears to be causing the issue.Okay; I've used BitTornado for years now. I've used an internal ADSL modem, and I've never had an issue. Good DL/UL speeds, always reliable connection. I just bought a new PC, installed the modem again, and suddenly, it's running like a dog. I installed two versions of XP to see if it was a software issue - media center 2005 and Home Premium (Home Premium is a clean install, and what I've been using for years) - same problem. I tried using a router, same issue. I'm completely baffled. I've enabled and disabled Windows firewall, attempted port forwarding, with the router - nothing. Speeds, if I'm lucky enough for the torrent to connect (the dreaded error 10060) hover around 5kbps, regardles of the number of avbailable seeders. After a while, torrents will connect, and I will get the usual info on seeders and leechers, the "traffic light" will go from yellow to green, but the speed never gets above the aforementioned mark. I was using a Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo P; prior ro that I've used custom built machines. This is my current machine spec, ISP etc: ISP : AOL ADSL connection : DLink 2640B or ZOOM PCI ADSL Modem PC - Packard Bell Ipower FX 7660, Athlon FX-60. 2gb RAM, x2 7600GT cards. Service pack 2, all up to date. On one occasion last night, I managed to get my usual download speed. Other than that, it's as described above. Given the error, my first suggestion to fix the issue would be port forwarding. However, bear in mind that I've switched to an internal ADSL modem, and had the same problem. I've also tried Utorrent and Azureus; same problem. Normal Windows downloads (non BT) are absolutely fine. If the problem is a port issue, then it must be something on the OS which is suddenly effected by a software component on the PC, which has changed/blocked some default. The only thing I've changed is the hardware of the PC I use. I just can't get my head around what's going on, and if anybody can help I'd be extremely grateful!
hermanm Posted October 20, 2007 Report Posted October 20, 2007 do you get a green circle usinf utorrent? new mac address would mean you probably got assigned a new ip which would require you to do the port forwarding again.
Casper42 Posted October 21, 2007 Report Posted October 21, 2007 Yeah, Launch UT and check the bottom Status bar and see what color the icon is. If its anything other than green, click on it and run the button that says "test if port is forwarded correctly".If that test fails, then we will need more information on your setup before continuing. When using the DLink, I am assuming you have the machine's network card plugged into the DLink and then the DLink plugged into the phone line for ADSL. The Dlink should be a router as well.In this scneario you need to see if uPNP is working properly and if its not, do 3 things1) Setup a DHCP Reservation in your router so your machine always get the same IP. Pick an IP or just tell it to keep the one you have currently.2) Then add a port forwarding setup to route a specific public port to the same private port and the IP set to your machine's newly reserved IP. 3) Make sure uT knows which port to use, turn off Random ports if its on, and you may as well disable uPNP while your at it since its not working. If you changed your IP Above during the DHCP reservation, you need to open a command prompt and do an "ipconfig /release" and then "ipconfig /renew" to make sure your using the proper IP.Then close uT completely, open it again, and check your icon color at the bottom. If your using the ADSL PCI modem, do you know if it has any kind of router built in, or is your IP Address effectively public? (If your not sure, you can port the first 2 octets (x.x) and people here will be able to tell you. Anyone asking for more than 2 is phishing ). If your public IP, then you just need to pick a port and make sure any software firewalls are opened on that port for TCP traffic.Hope that helps
