birderbob Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 I am new to BitTorrent. I am trying to set up my port forwarding, but I can't get it to work. I have an Actiontec GT701 DSL modem (Lan IP 192.168.100.1) connected to a dLink wireless router DI524 (Lan IP 192.168.1.1). My desktop has a static IP address of 192.168.1.150. My port is 25215.I thing I have to configure port forwarding on both the modem and the router, but I have tried every combination I can think of and the port always shows "not open".Any suggestions or specific port forwarding entries I should try?ThanksBob
hermanm Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 try here: http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Actiontec/GT701-WRU/Utorrent.htm
birderbob Posted October 22, 2007 Author Report Posted October 22, 2007 I tried that procedure along with the DI524 procedure (http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DI-524/DI-524index.htm)It didn't work with the IP addresses I tried.
thedlw Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 What is your netmask set to? You may have an issue with having 100.1 vs 1.1
birderbob Posted October 22, 2007 Author Report Posted October 22, 2007 Sorry - I don't know the term "Netmask". How can I find it?
thedlw Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 Ok i'll put it like this. Your modem is doing routing and nat. Your router is doing routing and nat. So you'll have to port forward twice. Once from modem -> router. Then from router -> computer. If you could have only one device doing routing and nat it would make life easier.Your wireless router "should" be able to be configured just as an access point which would make it easier.
birderbob Posted October 22, 2007 Author Report Posted October 22, 2007 Thanks; that starts to clear up the situation.I would prefer not to reconfigure my entire network just for this. What IPs should I use on each device to try to get this to work? Thanks again for the help.
thedlw Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 Add a port forward from your modem -> router.Add a port forward from your router -> computer. If your internet works your obviously able to do stuff. This is the simplest way to do this.I'd use the same port for both.
hermanm Posted October 22, 2007 Report Posted October 22, 2007 It gets complicated if you try to run two DHCP servers on the same network. Turn off DHCP on the modem or router. It'll be easier to set up and adjust port forwarding when you have just one DHCP server.
birderbob Posted October 22, 2007 Author Report Posted October 22, 2007 Well, I tried it and nothing: "Checking port 25215 on 71.34.237.139...Error! Port 25215 does not appear to be open."I forwarded port 25215 on the modem to 192.168.1.1 (my router). Then I forwarded port 25215 on the router to 192.168.1.150 (my desktop)Any other thing to try?
