1commander
I am wondering how to download only one file (or files) from a torrent without having to download the entire thing. Say, you have a 40gb torrent and need only one file from it.Thanks for your help.
hermanm
http://utorrent.33host.com/html/AppendixA_02_02.htmlWhen Adding Torrents: Show a window that displays the files inside the torrent will tell µTorrent to display the Add New Torrent dialog. If unchecked, µTorrent will simply ask where you'd like to save the torrent contents, assuming a default download location is not set.http://utorrent.33host.com/html/AppendixA_01_05_04.htmlAfter the torrent starts, look in the Files tab.Don't Download will set the file's priority to skip. 1commander
Just to make sure, this way allows you to download parts of a torrent, without allocating space for the entire torrent?
hermanm
Sorry, I don't know how uTorrent works in that respect. There's turning off the "pre-allocate" feature in uTorrent, but there's also lots of other advanced flags that deal with disk space management. If you do a search on this forum, there's lots of discussion and explanation on this. I've never bothered to learn about it, but if you're curious - the information is all there. When I run out of space, I just buy bigger drives.
Thunder
When you download something with µT, it never pre-allocate space in HDD; exept if you check the "Pre-allocate all files" option in preferances. I think
GlorifiedJester
hermanm - thanks.Thunder - it wasn't never downloaded with uT, there isn't a torrent out there on the web for it, that's why I wanted to create it as a Torrent & share.. thanks. hermanm
Yeah, I never understood that. How is that Windows will say a file is 2GB, but actually not take up that space? If I move that file from the current drive to another drive, will 2GB of data be copied over, or only the amount downloaded so far?
1commander
Thanks for the help guys. I only have 10gb left on one of my disks, trying to download a 40gb torrent... didn't want to run into problems. I tried it, and it looks okay.
