agoodarfour Posted October 25, 2007 Report Posted October 25, 2007 Sorry, but I'm really new to this and I could use some help! I open regedit as directed by microsoft (KB196271) to cure my 10055 error. After clicking on EDIT-NEW I have several options KEY, STRING. DWORD etc. I realize I should select DWORD but there seems to be too much info in the posted step guide than can be entered to create a new reg key. I'm running XP Home SP2. Has anyone got the patience to post a better step guide so I can fix this problem? Thanks!
Ultima Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 That affects the ephemeral port range, which you probably shouldn't be touching, really. If you're using so many simultaneous connections that there are no more free ephemeral ports, then there's got to be something wrong with your setup. Get/run HijackThis and post a copy of the log here. And tell us what the µTorrent Speed Guide shows your current settings to be.
agoodarfour Posted October 28, 2007 Author Report Posted October 28, 2007 Thanks for the reply. I didn't want to touch the reg settings either but that was the advice from Microsoft site (Article KB196271) for the connection issue with XP SP2! Didn't know what else to do!!!! Info requested. My Utorrent settings are: Upload limit: 92kb/s. Upload slots: 6.Connections: 100. Connections Global: 200. Max active torrents: 6. Max active downloads: 5. Encryption enabled. I have forwarded the same Utorrent port number for both outbound and inbound services.Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.0 (BETA)Scan saved at 10:53:29, on 28/10/2007Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\ezSP_Px.exeC:\Program Files\ATI Technologies\ATI Control Panel\atiptaxx.exeC:\WINDOWS\AGRSMMSG.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\ICO.EXEC:\Program Files\drag'n drop cd+dvd\BinFiles\DragDrop.exeC:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\1175652373\ee\AOLSoftware.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgcc.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeC:\Program Files\Internet Download Manager\IDMan.exeC:\Program Files\NETGEAR\WG111T Configuration Utility\wlan111t.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\AOL\ACS\AOLAcsd.exeC:\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ALUSchedulerSvc.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgamsvr.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgupsvc.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVG7\avgemc.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\VS7Debug\mdm.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\wanmpsvc.exeC:\Program Files\Bonjour\mDNSResponder.exeC:\Program Files\Internet Download Manager\IEMonitor.exeC:\PROGRA~1\DVDREG~1\DVDRegionFree.exeC:\WINDOWS\explorer.exeC:\Program Files\eMule\emule.exeC:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exeC:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exeC:\Documents and Settings\Pete\My Documents\Downloads\Programs\HiJackThis_v2.exeR0 - Try killing the Bonjour service. Um... eMule... try not running it alongside µTorrent; does the problem persist? Also, what firewall are you running?
agoodarfour Posted October 29, 2007 Author Report Posted October 29, 2007 Okay, Thanks! I won't run Emule along with Utorrent again. I'll try to delete the webserch, and I'm only running the XP firewall. Am I not right in thinking that SP2 needs to be patched or adjusted to increase connection numbers from 10 to 50 or more? Thanks!
Ultima Posted October 31, 2007 Report Posted October 31, 2007 You'd be wrong in that regard; increasing the number of halfopen connections might actually aggrevate the situation, so you're better off resetting net.max_halfopen to 8, or maybe even 4.
