Cephus Posted October 27, 2007 Report Posted October 27, 2007 I'd been using utorrent 1.7.4 and it had been crashing regularly. Once 1.7.5 came out and supposedly fixed the crash bug, I upgraded and it worked fine for a day or two, then it crashed as well and when I restarted it, it had reverted to 1.7.4 on it's own. I've just upgraded again, I don't know if it was a fluke or not but it seems strange that it would undo the upgrade by itself. Also, I've noticed that when my utorrent crashes, all the other computers on the network lose net connectivity. Why would one computer's utorrent going down affect other computers? Thanks.
Cephus Posted October 28, 2007 Author Report Posted October 28, 2007 I've tried it with and without the software firewall so I know that's not the issue, it behaves the same either way.
DreadWingKnight Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 That doesn't answer the question he asked. And just disabling the software firewall (with the exception of windows built-in) isn't enough.
ElectricW Posted November 2, 2007 Report Posted November 2, 2007 I have the SAME problem - I have reverted back to version 1.6 - it's stable.I have NO FirewallI have AVG antivirus - all cleanI run Adaware professionalI have no dodgy trojans etc - the only program that affects / blocks ALL my internet operation is utorrent 1.7x when it crashes every 2-3 hours!

Firon Posted November 3, 2007 Report Posted November 3, 2007 Disable Nero Scout and associated indexing functions.
Cephus Posted November 3, 2007 Author Report Posted November 3, 2007 No software firewall installed at all. My wife just reinstalled her entire system from scratch, installed 1.7.5 clean and now she's crashing too (3x today alone).
newname123 Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 I have the same problem. Although with me it crashes within 10 minutes.I don't use any firewall. I use Norman as virusscanner.I do use a router, but the problem isn't in it as my notebook doesn't have this problem.And here is the Hijack log:Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.2Scan saved at 15:50:16, on 4-11-2007Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\csrss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Norman\Npm\bin\ELOGSVC.EXEC:\Norman\Npm\Bin\Zanda.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\ATKKBService.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exeC:\Norman\Npm\bin\NJEEVES.EXEC:\Norman\Nvc\BIN\NVCSCHED.EXEC:\Norman\Nvc\bin\nvcoas.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\alg.exeC:\WINDOWS\SOUNDMAN.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\RUNDLL32.EXEC:\Norman\Npm\bin\ZLH.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeC:\Norman\Nvc\BIN\NIP.EXEC:\Norman\Nvc\bin\cclaw.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exeC:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\usnsvc.exeC:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\msnmsgr.exeC:\Program Files\SlimBrowser\sbrowser.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\wscntfy.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\wbem\wmiprvse.exeR1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = https://login.live.com/ppsecure/sha1auth.srf?lc=1043R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName = KoppelingenO2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dllO2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [soundMan] SOUNDMAN.EXEO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartupO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nwiz] nwiz.exe /installO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvMediaCenter] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvMcTray.dll,NvTaskbarInitO4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Norman ZANDA] C:\Norman\Npm\bin\ZLH.EXE /LOAD /SPLASHO4 - HKCU\..\Run: [CTFMON.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeO4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MsnMsgr] "C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger\MsnMsgr.Exe" /backgroundO4 - HKUS\S-1-5-19\..\Run: [CTFMON.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\System32\CTFMON.EXE (User 'Lokale service')O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-20\..\Run: [CTFMON.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\System32\CTFMON.EXE (User 'Netwerkservice')O4 - HKUS\S-1-5-18\..\Run: [CTFMON.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\System32\CTFMON.EXE (User 'SYSTEM')O4 - HKUS\.DEFAULT\..\Run: [CTFMON.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\System32\CTFMON.EXE (User 'Default user')O4 - Global Startup: Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk = C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\reader_sl.exeO9 - Extra button: Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exeO9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Windows Messenger - {FB5F1910-F110-11d2-BB9E-00C04F795683} - C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exeO23 - Service: ATK Keyboard Service (ATKKeyboardService) - ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. - C:\WINDOWS\ATKKBService.exeO23 - Service: Norman eLogger service 6 (eLoggerSvc6) - Norman ASA - C:\Norman\Npm\bin\ELOGSVC.EXEO23 - Service: Norman NJeeves - Unknown owner - C:\Norman\Npm\bin\NJEEVES.EXEO23 - Service: Norman ZANDA - Norman ASA - C:\Norman\Npm\Bin\Zanda.exeO23 - Service: Norman Virus Control on-access component (nvcoas) - Norman ASA - C:\Norman\Nvc\bin\nvcoas.exeO23 - Service: Norman Virus Control Scheduler (NVCScheduler) - Norman ASA - C:\Norman\Nvc\BIN\NVCSCHED.EXEO23 - Service: NVIDIA Display Driver Service (NVSvc) - NVIDIA Corporation - C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exe--End of file - 3696 bytes
Switeck Posted November 4, 2007 Report Posted November 4, 2007 I've heard Norman AV (or components of it) cause µTorrent all kinds of fits.
ElectricW Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 I've removed Nero Indexing. I also removed another "Nero" process which I didn't ask for! I have removed "Down2Home" (Network traffic monitor). My crashing is reduced, now 1.7x can run for many (well nearly double figures) hours without crashing.Version 1.6 NEVER crashed. 1.7x seems to be very sensitive!I have installed dbx_x86 (I read a request for it in another posting) - I'll see what that comes up with...I may be some time - I have other matters to worry about....But, thanks for the help.... I'll report back....ElectricWCaptains Log: Stardate 8th November, 2007My system is stable now....I've gone back to 1.6!I'm sorry I can't accept the theory that "everyone is out step except me!" (V1.7x)... Version 1.7x MUST have broken something - otherwise how come version 1.6 works fine...I've read crap on here "Version 1.6 is NOT supported" ... That OK with me - I don't NEED support with 1.6.... It works fine! Version 1.7x is broken! It needs LOTS of support.Sorry, I have no more time to waste - I'll stay with 1.6 until it no longer works and then I'll look for another client that does....If anybody needs a copy of 1.6 - email me!
