Animorc
x264 > XviD > DivX by compressibility means. With the right settings, you will mostly be able to get the same quality using an x264 encoder at 800kbps as you get with an XviD (or DivX) one at 1000kbps. Of course that depends on the source media. Encoding an XviD to x264 is probably not very successful.
Firon
H.264 is notably more efficient (compression-wise, decoding is a bitch!) than XviD, and XviD is far more efficient than DivX.
splintax
Agree with Firon, but XviD has better support right now..Oh yeah, and is that torrent link provided by the OP a pirated version? If so it should be removed.. :|

Firon
Dr.Divx II is free and open source splintax. XviD does have better support, I like it more cause I can play it on my stand-alone DVD player downstairs. Just get a TV ep, burn to cd-rw/dvd-rw and play as is, no transcoding necessary! Firon
I meant hardware (and to some extent, software) support.I like H.264 a lot, but XviD is more practical for me for that one reason.
