acidflow Posted November 23, 2007 Report Posted November 23, 2007 When I use utorrent, it says after I have downloaded my file that it is uploading the file. Does this mean that I am serving as a host for other people to download files, and if I am, can this be disabled? Also, if and when it is doing that, am I giving people access to any of the files on my computer, or just the files that I have downloaded?Sorry if I'm asking questions that they may have obvious answers.. but I really don't know very much about the program and how it works. Thanks in advance for the help.
Firon Posted November 23, 2007 Report Posted November 23, 2007 Only the file you downloaded. And you even upload while downloading it. This is the way BT works. You should continue uploading (known as seeding when you've finished downloading) the file until your ratio is at least 0.5, preferrably 1.
acidflow Posted November 23, 2007 Author Report Posted November 23, 2007 OK, but the only file that I am uploading is the one I have downloaded, right? And, once I download the files contents, is that file always available for someone to grab to grab from my hard disk, or do I only have to upload it one time to a server or some other place, and then it is available for everyone? I don't want to always serve as a host, but rather, just upload the file to a location one time, and then let people access it.
Lord Alderaan Posted November 23, 2007 Report Posted November 23, 2007 A torrent in 'seeding' status is completely on your HD and you share it with others. You can stop this by either removing or stopping in µtorrent. As a general rule its considered fair to keep a torrent in seeding status until the ratio is at least 1. A ratio of 1 means u have given as much as you have taken.
