Is it okay to share "partial" files?

I'm somewhat new to torrent sharing, and I just wondered if it's considered bad form to download, say, half of a large file, pause it, and share the part that I've got. If it's kosher, how do I do it?

Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere, but I didn't come across it.

if you "pause" a file you will neither down- or upload anything. so it's not a wise idea to pause for long. you are sharing those parts you already have while you download though

. . .So, just to add to what µTorrent-Guest said, no, it is not bad form; and you don't need to know how to do it, because you are already doing it. You are uploading at the same time you are downloading, although usually at different speeds.

Unless you are paused, as was explained.

If you are looking for good form, however, then you would keep your connection for quite awhile after you have your complete download. It depends on the nature of the file. Then you would be giving back, and eventually you'd have uploaded the whole file. "Seeding" really means continuing to upload AFTER you've already uploaded the whole thing.
