A question from a novice...

Hi Friends,

I'm new to the world of torrents... 'cause i got a broadband connection recently at home, and torrents are not allowed in the office...

Well, I downloaded this uTorrent 1.7.5 software, and currently downloading a file of size >4GB...

What I got confused though, is the status of "size downloaded" so far...

There three different numbers shown in the UI...

1. In the "General" Tab, under the section "Transfer", I see:

Downloaded: 606 MB

Uploaded: 758 MB

2. In the same tab, under the section "General", I see:

Total Size: 4.3GB (927 Done)

3. In the "Files" Tab, under the column "Done", I see 905MB.

All these figures are shown at the same time, when the column "Done" on the top table shows as 20.6%.

Now I'm confused, as to which of these three "Done"/"Downloaded" sizes is the correct size that's downloaded so far?

Can someone please help me understand the meaning of these three notations?

Is your download partition formatted as NTFS or FAT32?

Downloaded means how much data µTorrent has downloaded since the torrent job was first added to the list -- wasted/hashfailed or not.

Total size's "Done" means how much good (non-wasted/hashfailed) data you have for the torrent job, including previously-downloaded data from before the torrent job was first added (meaning you must've resumed downloading existing files).

The Files tab's "Done" means how much of the file is done downloading and is good (non-wasted/hashfailed), including previously-downloaded data from the before the torrent job was first added (meaning you must've resumed downloading that file from before).

Why there's a discrepancy between the General tab's Total Size's Done and the File tab's Done? Probably because there are multiple files in the torrent, and µTorrent has downloaded parts of other files? As for the seeming discrepancy between the Downloaded and Total Size's done... there is no discrepancy, since Downloaded doesn't take existing data into account from when the torrent job was first added (or actually, also if the files were added in the middle, and a forced-recheck was used).

One comment about your last lines in the post... Actually there was no other torrent being downloaded before this one... I tried one, but it never started, so I then deleted it...
