Pillowcase Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 The port that my uTorrent uses has a habit of clamming up if I restart my computer or turn off uTorrent, so every time I have to bring up my router page and tell it to open up again. I just noticed that my router has a feature called "port triggering" and I was wondering if uTorrent is capable of using it.
jewelisheaven Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 Err, if you forward your ports I dont think you need triggering. That's a feature called "Special Applications" on my D-Link... when it sees packets bound for XX port, open up ____ - ____ range of ports. I havent needed it with the port forwarding setup to my LAN IP
Pillowcase Posted December 8, 2007 Author Report Posted December 8, 2007 Yes, but as I said if I turn off uTorrent the port I have set up tends to shut off all by itself, and I can't find an inactivity timer or anything anywhere, so it would be a great help if I could tell uTorrent to open it up itself.
jewelisheaven Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 Oeer, are you talking about the port in the router or on your computer? After uT closes the port should become available. If it doesnt check Task Manager to make sure it's not running in the background. (NOTE: If you have ctrl-P -> Advanced -> bt.graceful_shutdown = TRUE it's not a good idea to kill the process, as you'll have to deal with Re-Checking of all running torrents upon re-start)On the router, if you enable port forwarding and this occurs it's possible DHT is killing your router. Or your number of concurrent connections. Or your total number of torrents running...
Pillowcase Posted December 8, 2007 Author Report Posted December 8, 2007 Err I'm talking about the router port I believe, since I have to reach my router through my internet browser to get it to open up. If it's the number of connections or DHT or whatever that's doing it there's not much I can do anyways, so again, if I can get it to open up by itself that would be good.P.S. About bt.graceful_shutdown: it appears some problems still arise so check my other thread
Firon Posted December 8, 2007 Report Posted December 8, 2007 Port triggering doesn't work with BT. You have to use regular port forwarding (usually "virtual server" or something), or use UPnP.
Pillowcase Posted December 9, 2007 Author Report Posted December 9, 2007 In that case, what are the functions of the net.outgoing_ip net.outgoing_pot and net.outgoing_max_port parameters?
jewelisheaven Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 Answered in the CHM (µManual in my sig)outgoing IP tells uT to bind to a specific adapter.Outgoing port specifies specific port, and max_port allows you to set a specific range... something about cone NAT.
Pillowcase Posted December 9, 2007 Author Report Posted December 9, 2007 Then shouldn't setting up an outgoing port be enough to trigger a port?
DreadWingKnight Posted December 9, 2007 Report Posted December 9, 2007 No. The trigger is based on the port you're connecting TO, not the port you're connecting FROM.
