sponger246 Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 My port forward was working fine untill I changed my anti-virus. I changed from NAV to Trend Micro. Now I cant get a full connection. I know how to forward a port. There are already several ports that I have forwarded but none of them seem to give me a "green" connection.Any ideas on something else I can try?
jewelisheaven Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 I assume you've checked Trend Micro forums or searched for it in a search engine before asking?
uAzu Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 Are you using allinonebloatwaresoftwarefirewall? Or is your new application purely AV?
jewelisheaven Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 All of these a-i-o ... I guess I'm a late child of *NIX philosophy.. make one program to do one thing well. . . yeah, sorry I didn't mention that before. All indexers / filesystem protection programs more than likely have problems. also the FAQ mentions confirmed incompatible software, and a search through the forum reveals many more.In short, be sure your AV is only blocking viruses, and not actively scanning your system, or that you don't have any indexers running.
sponger246 Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 I did a search, most everything I found with Trend Micro was involving HijackThis. I had utorrent working for about 5 after doing a long search to make sure nothing was blocking it. After I set everything I had a green check but then when I shut down and restarted, I had the same problem.
jewelisheaven Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 If you're wary feel free to post your HiJackThis log.I'm not sure what we'll find, but I hope you are

jewelisheaven Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Hmm, do either:O23 - Service: Trend Micro Unauthorized Change Prevention Service (TMBMServer) - Trend Micro Inc. - C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\BM\TMBMSRV.exeor O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ufSeAgnt.exe] "C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\Internet Security\UfSeAgnt.exe" interfere with normal internet operations?Have you tried turning off said services/operations to see if you can get good speeds/green check in uT without them on?Can you try speeds with any torrent from http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/ (the more recent the better)
sponger246 Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 Im back to green. The open office download slowly climbed up to 170kb/s then made a sudden drop to 30kb/s and then stayed somewhere around 40-60kb/s.
jewelisheaven Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Fortunately that proves you can accept incoming connections. Because of this, you no longer have to worry about any sort of forwarding or IP settings (unless something changes). Unfortunately it also means that it is probably your ISP doing bad stuff to your connection OR the peers on your other torrents simply do not have the bandwidth to keep you where you expect to be. Regarding your AV.. I would recommend reading up on why your AV likes to hog connections or not listen to your rules that tell it to let traffic from your utorrent.exe through. I'm glad you are working again, but I am not glad this adds another "incompatible program"... If you are able to configure the program somehow to except the traffic specifically in a sub-menu or advanced option would you mind posting the information here for the benefit of others. I love the variety in software the user can choose for their computer, but it's a shame that not all of them play nice with others :/Thanks for your patience!P.S. Do you really need Viewpoint Media Player / Manager / Update Service? (your choice of course... I dislike unnecessary processes) (here's a relevant URL http://ask-leo.com/is_viewpoint_spyware.html )
sponger246 Posted December 17, 2007 Author Report Posted December 17, 2007 Well I guess something has changed. After all my settings were changed and I made sure uTorrent was an exception on both my av and windows fire wall. Everything was going fine and yesterday the green check went back to the yellow triangle and sometimes to red. Im not sure exactly how to check if my av is always running or why its not listening to what Im telling it.Would you happen to have any other ideas?
jewelisheaven Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 If it was working with the same settings before, I'd look around online searching for your ISPs views/measures to deal with filesharing.:/ Unfortunately I can't tell you anything is fixed/broken for sure if it WAS green=good before. Are you sure it's not the tracker/swarms you are testing. If you test OOo again and get green, that is definitely the case.
sponger246 Posted December 17, 2007 Author Report Posted December 17, 2007 I tested OOo again and nothing green, still yellow and downloading at 30-50kbs which is slow considering Im usualy around 100kb/sNew info:Green light.Ok, now things are getting interesting. If I go in my router and delete all the ports that I have forwarded and then go back and put new ones in and restart everything (modem, router, computer)utorrent will go green untill the computer is restarted again and then its back to yellow or red.
