dagansandler Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 Hello!I've recently updated my system to XP, and utorrent doesn't seem to download like it used to.I've set a static IP and port-forwarded my D-link router.I set a 400 value in the connection limit box, using ipfilter.datBUTutorrent still shows an enormous amount of hashfails, and when I check if my port is forwarded like it should be it shows it doesn't, even though there is a green icon in the status bar and download speeds are ~fine~is there something i might have forgotten?is there a torrent which i can download as a test to be sure if the problem is with my computer or within the torrents i'm currently downloading?thanks,Dagan!
jewelisheaven Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 Sure is http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/ are the home of the OOo torrents. What build/version (Alt-H-A) are you using please.
dagansandler Posted December 11, 2007 Author Report Posted December 11, 2007 ver 1.7.5build 4602gonna try and download...
jewelisheaven Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 What I would also recommend is reading the links in my signature. XP likes to limit half-open connections, which are a favourite for p2p users to use. This is not a problem on default uT installs, but with a migrating configuration you may need to mod your tcpip.sys for starters
dagansandler Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 well,it downloaded, but only after i disabled ipfilter.dat and restarted uTorrentany idea why is that? could it be my ipfilter.dat blocks wrong addresses? where can I get a good one?and my system is not migrated, i installed my windows on a fully formatted PCbesides that, the rest of my torrents keep doing the same thing.
Switeck Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Many D-Link routers corrupt data packets if used in DMZ mode. They also don't perform well if attempting to make more than 100 connections at a time.Wireless and USB links mixed into that equation just makes everything far worse. However, maybe that's not really your problem...Have you tried to determine who/what ips are sending you bad pieces which cause the hash fails? If so, just block them (by adding their ips or ip ranges to ipfilter.dat) and your problem should solve itself.
jewelisheaven Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 I'm sorry about my miscommunication before. I suggested those things because it sounded like you had uTorrent running PREVIOUSLY and migrated THAT configuration to your new XP Also Switeck is right about the banning. Aside form the auto-ban features (improved and improved better still in 1.7 and 1.8 lines) that is the way to get rid of bad peers you dont want connecting or transferring data to.This causes a problem if they for example are the only seed.In that case your only recourse is to go to where you got the torrent (hopefully it has a comments section or forum) and point out the main / only / sole seeder is spamming you with hashfails. Aside from being an inconvenience to you, on many low-upload connections that is VERY un-utilitarian, whereby they are essentially wasting 5 x the piece size (20 MiB for max piecesize of 4 MiB) and then you cut them off forever (until you reset bans or restart uT).Note you can change the ban settings under Ctrl-P -> Advanced bt.ban_ratio and bt.use_ban_ratio
dagansandler Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 I'm gonna try the following and tell you how it goes...1)reducing the connection limit to 1002)tracking the bad IPs and adding them to ipfilter.datAnother issue that I mentioned before - the OpenOffice torrent isn't downloading while ipfilter.dat is loaded. why is that?
Switeck Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 You're probably blocking the ip range that the OpenOffice tracker is operating in. In short, you cannot connect to the torrent tracker to GET ip info for seeds and peers that you are not blocking. My guess is it's possibly something in the 38.x.x.x range and your ipfilter.dat is just getting too much of it blocked...as might probably would too.
dagansandler Posted December 13, 2007 Author Report Posted December 13, 2007 I seeI think I might make a new ipfilter.dat out of an empty file and just build on it.the tracker actually seems to be down while ipfilter.dat is on
