kenkiller Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 utorrent has been failing and crashing since yesterday. Worked fine well before that.Pagefile size is set to 1536mb initial and max. However the mem usage of utorrent in task manager keeps rising until the program crashes without a valid dump. Opening and minimizing the utorrent window brings the mem usage down but only for a while before it rises and hits the max again.here is the hijack this info :Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.0 (BETA)Scan saved at 3:34:03 PM, on 12/11/2007Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)Boot mode: NormalRunning processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\brsvc01a.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\brss01a.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\AppleMobileDeviceService.exeC:\Program Files\IVT Corporation\BlueSoleil\BlueSoleilCS.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\Program Files\IVT Corporation\BlueSoleil\BsHelpCS.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\RUNDLL32.EXEC:\WINDOWS\StartupMonitor.exeC:\WINDOWS\SOUNDMAN.EXEC:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\jusched.exeC:\Program Files\Brother\ControlCenter2\brctrcen.exeC:\Program Files\IVT Corporation\BlueSoleil\BtTray.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeC:\Program Files\utorrent\utorrent.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib\NMBgMonitor.exeC:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools\daemon.exeC:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\Wcescomm.exeC:\Program Files\Logitech\SetPoint\SetPoint.exeC:\Program Files\Brother\Brmfcmon\BrMfcWnd.exeC:\Program Files\Miranda IM\miranda32.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Logitech\KhalShared\KHALMNPR.EXEC:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~3\rapimgr.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib\NMIndexStoreSvr.exeC:\Program Files\Brother\Brmfcmon\BrMfcmon.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib\NMIndexingService.exeC:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\taskmgr.exeC:\Documents and Settings\Penny Fock\Desktop\HiJackThis_v2.exeR0 - jewelisheaven Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 Ctrl-P -> Advanced -> Disk CachePlease post a screenshot of your settings there.
Switeck Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 O23 - Service: NMIndexingService - Nero AG - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ahead\Lib\NMIndexingService.exeNero's indexing service is known to cause µTorrent headaches.
jewelisheaven Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 LOL indeed i didn't eve bother reading this one, i'm still wondering what version the last guy was using. Also as I said before, I didn't know Nero came with one since I'm using the version 5.5 from years ago.
Firon Posted December 11, 2007 Report Posted December 11, 2007 That won't cause crashes. Your cache might be increasing without bound, which could cause this. Have you turned on limit bandwidth for local peers?
kenkiller Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 Yes....limit bandwidth for local peers is turned on... using default cache settings....
jewelisheaven Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 err Firon what does one have to do with the other. At least if cache settings were overridden with -1 then that would explain the cache growing... Since that's not the case what else is there to check?
Firon Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 I ask because there was a bug where local peers that were unlimited could cause the cache to increase without bound. When the memory usage goes up, does the cache size increase? Look at disk statistics to see that (on the speed tab).
kenkiller Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 the cache size in the write statistics continues to increase. even when the mem usage of utorrent is brought back to original after a minimize, the cache size continues to grow....currently it stagnants somewhere between 8-11mb. However, memory usage continues to grow...right now it's at 500,000k....i will monitor what are the stats when it crashes...is that useful?
jewelisheaven Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Are you seeing the peers connected with "L" flag (local peer)... also under Speed tab is the traffic to/from them in purple/blue?Firon is this the bug you were talking about? I find it hard to believe local peers would get a separate buffer, but if it exists, I surely hope it's fixed in the stable. Would you mind telling us your current uT version please (Alt-H-A). Man I've got 3K torrents and I can't make it pump out > 200 MiB... you're lucky Now I'm really interested in this solution.
kenkiller Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 I wish i wasn't so lucky it's just 5 torrents.I don't see a single "L" in the flags col under peers tab.Under speed tab, upload/download choice I only see a single green and a single red jagged line.Now it's nearly at 700mb.take a look see....oh yes....version is 1.7.5 build 4602...latest one iirc.
jewelisheaven Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 /me pokes FironMaybe me poking his eye out will help him see the solution more-clearly?LOL uT using more than firefox.. that's a rarity in my running.this post shows pictures of my current 4602.So since this is an acute problem.. Can you describe any system changes within that timeframe... program additions, deletions... that's just ODD! :`( I'm sorry but I'm stumped.
kenkiller Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 nope nothing...no changes. it just became like this after i came back to my pc after my domestic cleaner left.maybe something to note....my msn also failed at around the same time. uninstalled and installed but still fails right after signing in. in the end uninstalled and switched to miranda....msn live was bloatware anyway.but i doubt this had any link to utorrent, as it's a standalone program anyway.Man....i really wonder whats wrong...edit : ok....after reaching max pagefile size...(set as 1356mb), utorrent memory usage reduces back to around 50-70mb. firefox also reduces in memory usage...most probably something to do with the max limit reached and furiously swapping memory i assume.it appears fine for now, but it will crash later on...with a msg saying dump not created. it has happened consistently several times already.
jewelisheaven Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Again puzzling.Blah... well you could always try ... force creating a dump file... in the Logger tab, hold down control, right click and click dump memory info.Since the memory is actively increasing, anyone who knows what they mean might be able to figure it out??I'm sorry i'm completely useless in this process, i'm an end-user. I'm only intelligent in telling you how you THINK your software is working is in-fact NOT how it ACTUALLY works Maybe it comes from being some sort of tech support for 1/2 of my life
kenkiller Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 hey...no prob. at least someone will make some sense of the questions u asked and the stuff i've shown....really lost....now lot's of time is wasted from torrenting due to the crashes....pls dun tell me i need to use another client...utorrent is the best for me so far.edit : heh...after forcing a dump, utorrent crashed. not sure if it's supposed to. anyway, the pagefile shranked back to 500+mb. So it's quite conclusive that utorrent was taking up the majority of the pagefile. Around 1gb. Any expert out there?
kenkiller Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 it's an old gigabyte mb using a 6600gt agp. so decidedly not nforce i guess?
DreadWingKnight Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Not really decidedly. The nVidia nForce driver package has a firewall that is notoriously buggy, and is one of the things that causes this issue.
kenkiller Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 i did search for that after a search in this forum, and I dun think it's in my system. And this is an all new prob after months of using utorrent. So i doubt that would be a cause...i guess?
Firon Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Some software you installed on your system is causing it. It could even be malware. And gigabyte boards do use NVIDIA chipsets. DId you ever install nforce anything?
kenkiller Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 did try scan for malware....nothing turned up. as i said...this came from nowhere...no additional software added/removed.my mb has no built in video output. so it's just the normal nvidia drivers. nothing nforce involved.
Firon Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 nForce has nothing to do with built-in video. nForce is the chipset drivers.
kenkiller Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 yes i know....i'm saying i only have the nvidia video drivers on the system. nothing else.if i can't even have that how the hell would my video card work?
Firon Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 No, the NVIDIA drivers will work fine. What is "Browseui preloader"?
