dj_maxx
Why not to make a file settings.dat in plain text (user editable). This may help when creating custom uTorrent installation packages with some predefined settings using macros (e.g. install-time generated download dir paths relative to installation dir, and other params depending on installation path). splintax
it's possible to do already by using a settings.dat file..see this FAQ entry, although i'm not 100% sure on how this works..
Firon
You could use something that supports bencoded text.
Ultima
@splintax: dj_maxx wasn't asking about using µTorrent on a thumb drive or anything -- just to be able to modify settings.dat manually in a text editor (instead of opening the applilcation every time to change the settings) =P
Firon
Use a hex editor! That's user editable, plus all the commands are plainly readable...d9:bind_porti46124e17:bt.scrape_stoppedi1e20:check_assoc_on_starti0e13:close_to_trayi1e21:confirm_when_deletingi0e14Totally readable right? Still, a simple text file doesn't sound like that bad of an idea.
slayers
This is geeky but, why not? I say more power to power users and let them find creative ways of spreading the uTorrent domination
StirolXXX
What about using ini file? Or when uTorrent exits it export from registry it's settings in-to reg file so i can take my client, with my setting on a USB stick?
Animorc
Registry entries will only make people demanding a useless uninstaller. A .ini-file could be okay though.
chaosblade
Not sure how an INI would be different from the current .dat file. The only bit sections are those regarding things that are not configurable anyway. The options themselves, as you can see, are bencoded and as such are text-based and are already editable. Badsecurityforum
I wanted to suggest something like this. For support and troubleshooting an option to export the settings to a file or the clipboard would be useful.
BuZu
Exporting/Importing options to a file would be useful when one must reinstall windows...
Badsecurityforum
Exporting/Importing options to a file would be useful when one must reinstall windows...Just copy the whole AppData-folder. Much easier. It also preserves skins and other things.I would only copy the important stuff to the clipboard. e.g. the search engines are not necessary for troubleshooting speed problems.
