hookedontv Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 I have used utorrent for almost a year. I have never had any problems. But since yesterday when I try to download something I get an error message that says "The system cannot find the file specified." Does anyone have any idea what this means or how I can fix it?? Thanks.
nrafina Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 i have the same problem for 3 days now (or something like that). If i am not mistaken it is since i downloaded the latest version.I tried everything that the help page had about it but nothing worked.thanks
jewelisheaven Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 Where specifically is this message popping up?
nrafina Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 i dont know for sure but i think the message pop up when i am downloading from a specific tracker..Is this possible or is it just a coincidence? The message is popping up during download, and in my case in 2 different torrents. If a insist on downloading it pop ups after a few minutes again and so on
jewelisheaven Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 So this is in the "General" tab under "tracker status" ?
hookedontv Posted December 12, 2007 Author Report Posted December 12, 2007 My error message pops up right when I choose to download any tv show from the utorrent search page.
jewelisheaven Posted December 12, 2007 Report Posted December 12, 2007 OK, so the order of events is: open uT -> enter search term in search box -> press enter and your default browser opens up (which one is that by chance? I use Mobile Firefox 2 so I can't integrate the search feature)You see the list of returned search terms and click on one of the items. Are you clicking on the .torrent file link and telling it to "open with ... µTorrent" or "save as".And when this error box pops up, is it within uTorrent's window? (When you alt tab out of uT and back in do you see the title message "error" or "D: x.xK U: x.xK µTorrent x.x"If possible could you screenshot this message? (Alt-Print Screen) -> paste into mspaint.exe -> save as PNG -> upload to http://imageshack.usThe only reason I can think for it being unable to find the file is on reload, not during download...
shawf Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 I had this problem too. As utorrent were reporting download completed, some files was missing. I have defined new download directory and incomplete directory without anyspaces in it. Old fashioned way.Like E:\torrentsE:\torrents\incompleteAtm, I have no problem with it.
maha Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 I get "Download Error" pop-up. It says torrent could not be opened because an unknown error occurred. Try saving to disc first then opening the file. However I cant do that either. Help Please!
jewelisheaven Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 Hrmm, if that's the case, and you're using the browser... Are you sure you have enough free space to store the temp file you are opening before it gets copied to the uT torrent storage folder? Is there a reason you can't "save as" instead of "open with"?
hookedontv Posted December 13, 2007 Author Report Posted December 13, 2007 Ok, I am no computer genius, so bear with me as I try to explain this. This is what I do. I go to the search box in utorrent and put it my tv show. It pulls up a new internet window and I click on the little green box with the down arrow that is to the left of the tv show name. That is when the file download box pops up with the option to open, save, or cancel. I choose open as I always have over the last year. Then a little box that has utorrent in the very top left hand side comes up and says "Unable to load Samantha.Who.S01E06.HDTV.XviD-XOR.%5Beztv%5D+%2B%7Bmininova.org%7D%2B.1003396[1].torrent":The system cannot find the file specified.!" I read it could be because the name is too long, but there is nowhere to change that. And if I try to pick "Save As" instead of open, nothing but the utorrent icon gets saved. I have downloaded tv shows for almost a year and have never had a problem until the last few days. I know I have enough space, because I don't save the tv shows I have already downloaded. Please help! This is frustrating. Thanks!

maha Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 Has anyone given any thought that the Feds have corrupted utorrent so none of us can use it anymore? Just a thought what with AxxO and all.
jewelisheaven Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 needless posts are not welcomed here.Protip: as far as I know NOONE but Firon actively works within BitTorrent,Inc. The rest of the forum moderators and helpers here are completely community-driven. Therefore if ANY of your drivel were true, the forum is the first place we'd here about it. Frell, the sub-forum about the merger/acquisition of uTorrent was put up the same day it was announced all over the internet.uTorrent does not care what you download. Also I'd be wary of advertising what you download here as "big brother" is always watching... (note the always logged in googlebot )
DreadWingKnight Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 Has anyone given any thought that the Feds have corrupted utorrent so none of us can use it anymore?Has anyone considered that it's not nice to try to spread FUD like that?
kipper1807 Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 im having the same problem too, i thought it was my fault though. ive just had a new wireless router so id set up the port forwarding and then utorrent wouldnt work. But now ive seen others having the same problems im after some helpage. This is what happens.... - I go onto a website where i can get the things i want, ie. mini***a - click 'Download this torrent' - click 'open' - Utorrent fires up - before its even started doing anything else i get the following error message: Utorrent unable to load ''****************************************************************'': the system cannot find the file specified. !The bit that is all '***@ is just the name of the torrent and the site its coming fromany ideas anyone?
ajones81 Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 Try saving the torrent to your hard disk. If you cannot, your ISP might be jamming the works, so try a proxy. Sometimes, torrents don't get saved fully so try downloading the torrent multiple times until you get at least two versions with the same (biggest) size (or try downloading the torrent with a program like GetRight). Try loading the torrent and see. If you still get the error, try renaming the torrent and see. Also, make sure the download location in the Add New Torrent dialog is not set to a very long string.
kipper1807 Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 ok, so its now happening when i only try and use a certain source, im unsure if im allowed to say it here, so ill refrain unless it is stated i can and im asked for it. im having luck else where. thanks for your help.
Unknown Problem Occurred Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 Your TORRENT file is most likely not associated with your Torrent Downloading Program.Try this:I am using Windows XP.Open up your designated drive, mine being LOCAL DISK C:Documents and Settings > (Username) > Local Setting (You may have to view hidden files for this one) > Temp.Find any TORRENT file, right click it, then go to PROPERTIES.Where is says "Opens With", click on "Change...". Designate your downloader of preference, and enjoy your Television show. This is my first ever help post, and being one that just happened to be 20 minutes ago, I hope it helps you. Post and tell me if I need to make anything clearer. Tell if it didn't work. Feedback, you know?
ajones81 Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 @UPO: He did say that on clicking 'Download this torrent' and 'Open', uTorrent fires up. That's not likely to happen if the .torrent association is messed up.Plus, there's an easier way to do it for newbies in uTorrent -Preferences (Ctrl+P) / General / 'Associate with .torrent files' buttonAnyway, welcome and do keep contributing!
