Guest Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 Perhaps not exactly the rigth place for this question, but couldn't think of anything better. So I've been downloading few torrents recently and played with the trackers I can edit in given torrent's properties. I assumed by adding more trackers (valid for that particular torrent of course) I would gain more sources I can possibly download from. But it seems I was wrong. It looks like only the first tracker in list is being used at time.Is this normal or am I doing something wrong - or perhaps is something wrong?
jewelisheaven Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 If you are adding multiple trackers which are not tracking the torrent it is adding (little but still) overhead. Also it is causing needless connections to the tracker. If you are wondering how to get multiple trackers listed under General, perhaps you are not including the NEEDED blank line between different tiers of trackers (a tier has one tracker uT will report to before moving onto the next tier-- therefore if it is tracked by two private trackers, putting them on separate tiers will essentially have your client "bridge" the two swarms connecting to both sets of peers)
Guest Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 Uh, I don't understand at all. Sorry."If you are adding multiple trackers which are not tracking the torrent it is adding (little but still) overhead."Absolutely no idea what this means. I just got a list of trackers for one particular torrent and it looks like only one is being used. I want to know how do I make uT use more trackers at once.
torrero Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 Did you register (upload) the specific torrent to all of the other trackers, too?
ajones81 Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 Provided the same torrent is indeed being tracked by all those trackers, just put a single blank line between every tracker. If the trackers aren't tracking that torrent, putting them in there is just a waste of your resources. That's what jewel was trying to say. Capiche?
Guest Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 Torrero,, what? I'm even more confused. lolajones, I get the idea partially. But what I absolutely don't get is the tiers of trackers, where to put blank lines and where not... I tried to google something about this but no luck.Thing is: some torrents seem to be tracked by diferent trackers with different amount of seeders/leechers. But when I add those trackers in the torrent's properties, I do not get any change in S/L at all - and I don't mean I don't download from more sources, the numbers in general just don't change at all.
jewelisheaven Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 A better way to show this may be for you to try out the 1.8 version which has spread out Tracker statistics to its own tab.Be advised it is pre-beta, but is generally stable as far as crashing goes.uT fully recognizes the ability for multiple trackers to be on the SAME tier and for MULTIPLE tiers to exist for a torrent. Such as if you can communicate with Tracker A (on the same tier as Tracker it won't touch B until A becomes unavailable. Similarly if C and D are on different tiers uT will continually update statistics from your client to BOTH C and D.
ajones81 Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BitTorrent_(protocol)#Multitrackerhttp://goo.unixnation.net/wiki/index.cgi/BitTorrent_Tracker_RedundancyIf you've set up the tracker tiers with the blank lines between them properly, then if the same torrent is indeed being tracked by them, the no. of seeds/peers should eventually come to be around (seeds+peers on tracker 1) + (seeds+peers on tracker 2) + ... + (seeds+peers on tracker n) - [(n-1) * (common seeds+peers on trackers 1+2+...+n)](I hope I got that math down right! )Edit: Apparently text with parentheses in it doesn't get converted to auto-links properly, so one has to use the tags explicitly. A phpBB/PunBB limitation?
