albertojm Posted December 13, 2007 Report Posted December 13, 2007 Hardware Info:AMD Athlon XP 2000+ 1.67ghz1gb RAMVIA Fast Ethernet Adapter (Disabled)NIC Ethernet Realtek RTL8139 (Disabled)Two USB2.0AC'97 Audio DriverTwo WD800 Western Digital HDDSoftware Info:NOD32 V2.5Adobe SuiteMacromedia SuiteTvAnts, VideoLan, SopcastK-lite codec pack.Windows & Internet Configuration:Dynamic IP adress (DHCP On)Motorola SBG900 ModemUsing a DIRECT USB CONNECTION with my ISP Modem (this can't be changed)Windows XP Firewall Activated with utorrent.exe exception.Utorrent Configuration: I never changed the utorrent config before, so until this strange problem occured i was using the default config.So... three days ago i was trying to download some files from my common tracker (the same i'm using from three years ago) and suddenly it just wont download anything, i'v changed tracker and the same thing, so i came up to this forum to check if anybody else has the same problem, and it seems like they do... I'v started to do the "neccesary changes" (never were neccesary before) described by the guides i have found in this forum:* First of all, i tested with the OpenOffice torrent from http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/ and it tells me: "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it", after a few minutes it actually starts downloading but at a ridiculous speed of 1 kb or less.* Now, i'v changed the port to 24895 and nothing changed, actually i've tried ten different ports and it's the same.* Tried disabling "Enable UPnP port mapping" and "Enable NAT-PMP port mapping"* Tried Protocol encryption and Allow Incoming legacy connections.* Followed http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992 completly. (Excepting the Motorola Surfboard configuration, i'll explain this later.)Now, there are some strange facts:- Everytime i open utorrent, a different connection status appear (green ok icon, yellow warning icon) even if I open and close the program inmediatly, the status changes almost always.- Same thing with "Test port if its forwarded properly" it says OK sometimes and Failed in other ones, even when i do the test with 5 seconds of difference between them.- Most of the time even when utorrent is showing the green ok icon the "Test port if its forwarded properly" test says Failed. LAST TIME UPDATE I'v disabled DHT NETWORK and at least OpenOffice started working at a decent speed (30kb/s) but it says Seeds 2(22), Peers 0(81) and other file that i'm downloading started too with Seeds (0)1802, Peers 3(1819) but only at 4kb/s, strange is that "Test port if its forwarded properly" test keeps failing. Now, going back, this isn't an ISP problem, I have a network in my house with 2 desktop computer and 1 laptop (using wifi), i'v tested the other desktop computer and it downloads without any problem with a 100 - 150 kb/s average.Network Scheme is:My Desktop : Direct USB Connection.Another Desktop : Direct RJ45 Connection.Laptop: Wifi Connection. Why I didn't followed the Motorola SBG900 Port Fordwarding Guide: Quite Simple, I don't have an item called "Gateway" in Any menu, there are only four items : Cable Wireless Admin InfoPlus Reboot and Logout.-Can anyone help me with this very strange problem?thanks so much.
jewelisheaven Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 If the USB connection can't be changed how is it you are able to access the internet with Wifi on another computer?
albertojm Posted December 14, 2007 Author Report Posted December 14, 2007 jewelisheavenBecause it's limited by MAC Adress, each computer has access to the Modem using the propper adapter MAC Adress. Update I've realized that torrents are working only from 4am to 10am (-4GMT) Aprox.I'm starting to doubt about my ISP.
jewelisheaven Posted December 14, 2007 Report Posted December 14, 2007 OK I understand that, but your router connects to the modem, right? Why do you have one set of computers connected to the router and another connected directly to the modem? As far as noticing that behaviour.. I can only recommend checking your ISP's forum or searching online for similar cases already reported. The website dslreports.com also houses a forum where grievances like these can be aired. Also unfortunately if the tracker you are using has the private flag set, you cannot use DHT or PEX. If not you can try enabling those per torrent or global (for new torrents) to see if this allows traffic communication outside the window you previously mentioned.
albertojm Posted December 15, 2007 Author Report Posted December 15, 2007 No, I have both computers connected direct to the modem, one by USB and the other one by RJ45. (this is completly normal, it was installed by "ISP guys").
jewelisheaven Posted December 15, 2007 Report Posted December 15, 2007 ... where does the wifi come in?If you don't have a router then that means you are leasing multiple IPs from your ISP. Are they both on the same plan?If you notice you can only download certain times make sure you have contact on all the torrents you want to download during the next 24 hours then... uT caches peers and scrape stats for up-to 24 hours.
