utorrent crashing badly

hello

i am running utorrent 1.7 .5 and have beeen suffering from frequent stalling of utorrent when the computer is left on without me being on it eg on all night but when i wake up utorrent has stalled and is a white screen in the middle.i close it but the computer wont start any porgrams after that.it says the specific file path cannot be found on eg firefox or my computer and the turn off buttons dont do anything the computer just sits , i have to restart it using the button.

We need more information...but it sounds like a very bad "screensaver" program or virus.

Have you changed any of µTorrent's advanced settings?

(Some settings changes can crash µTorrent and possibly even your computer as well!)

i dont think its a virus i have scanned recently i have zonealram firewall avg anti virus and spyware.

Also information gleaned through a HiJackThis log would be invaluable. You can just paste the logfile into a post.

Can you try temporarily uninstalling ZA and checking? It's known to cause problems...

Do you have a router?

If yes, THERE'S the alternative.

The windows integrated firewall is usually sufficient if you don't have a router.

i have to admit, ive had the same kind of problem for a long time now, and i did a search for this type of crash but only now have i found one with similar problems.

sadam34 after the "crash" when you try to turn off the programs, does it ever say "access denied", and if u try to run any programs, does it say "program failed to initialize"?

ive tried to leave taskmanager on, but when it crashes it doesnt let me run CMD to shutdown and it also doesnt let me end processes. so ive always had to resort to just pressing the power button till it turns off, which probably isnt very good for my laptop.

i am also running zonealarm and nero, but i have all the useless nero components disabled.

if some1 can suggest a free firewall, thats as good as zonealarm or better, i will give it a go.

Hi,

I have been using uTorrent for several months now and didn't have any problems until last month. Since few days, whenever i start downloading with in few seconds/minutes i get a big "white screen" and system appears to be hung. I can't do any operations on my machine. Initially i suspected that it could be a screen saver or virus, etc. I had eTrust anti virus and didn't report any problem. I also installed Microsoft OneCare and scanned my machine several times and it didn't report any problem either. Problem occurs only when i start uTorrent and start downloading. I suspected torrents being origin of the problem. But I downloaded some of the aXXo torrents (which are usually very good) and tried to download and results in same behavior.

Previously i used latest release of uTorrent. I also tried uTorrent 1.8 Alpha and gives me same result. Currently i have 1.8 Alpha.

Please advice.

If the GUI thread is freezing we need to find out what is injecting into uTorrent's process. Please download, run, and paste a HijackThis log into ONE of your threads.
