ZA then Kerio then ZA again ruined my speeds - no success for hours

Hello,

I have been reading quite a lot of material on the forum and am presently asking for your help, as I'm being unable to understand what could be wrong.

For a few weeks I had had problems with the Truevector Service from Zone Alarm, despite having correct Up/Down speeds and a Web navigation capability during µT traffic of about 80 Kb/s download max.

Truevector was shutting down about 10 times a day and also overnight, sometimes relaunching ZA by itself, sometimes not, thus interrupting my Internet connection.

Fed up by this problem I decided to get a new firewall and install Kerio Winroute Firewall 6.3.1 instead. The result was a nonexistent surfing capability during µT traffic.

I then uninstalled it then installed ZA again, please note that I had carefully removed all ZA traces in registry and system before installing Winroute.

Also note that ZA was functioning extremely well with my prior connection at another house, with constant speeds of more than 120 Kb/s with a somewhat limited surfing capability.

So here is my problem : despite the fact that Truevector doesn't crash anymore, the installation of Winroute seems to have changed some setting and I have very, very limited connectivity with µT. Nearly 100% of trackers have the status "Offline (timed out)" or sometimes "Scrape OK" (??) and out of 100 seeds I rarely get 2-3 to connect to. My top download speed with µT is now at about 25 Kb/s (total).

I have spent about 5 hours checking every parameter ; my modem forwards the right ports, I input the right exceptions into ZA, and the port forward test is positive. I have set the right up/down limits after testing my speed.

Absolutely nothing looks different from before Winroute but something definitely is different ; I now have 1/4th of the speed I had before.

Here are the changes KWF does at installation because of conflicts :

- XP firewall and internet connection sharing deactivated. I reactivated it.

- SSDP (discover services?) deactivated. No clue.

- universal Plug-and-Play device host deactivated. Reactivated (positive in modem config)...

The settings I now have have allowed me to use µTorrent with very satisfying speeds for years. I'd be very grateful for any help restoring my old speeds without having to reinstall XP.

Thank you

Lionel

Both are reported problems with uT.

Other than those entries the logfile shows Avast, if it's posisble Avast is holding files open inspecting them, you could see if appending the Ctrl-P -> Downloads -> Add !ut to incomplete files...

Also I have heard that the NetBIOS service magicks things to working...

Sorry I didn't mention it. You talked about re-starting services so I figured you know about Computer Management or Services MMC snapins.

cmd -> services.msc

Like I said it may not be that service "TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper" is stopped and starting it again will fix it.. if the software is indeed your problem
