Ive always used utorrent and i remember awhile ago havin the same problem as i do now. 10 - 35 kb/s downloads. I did somthing back i nthe day and would get 70 - 400 each time, (unless the torrent had almost no people).

Ive gone through the speed guide, gone throught the FAQ, set up a static ip and forwarded my port properly. (for some reason the test for it doesnt work, says error or w/e. ive set my ip to 192.168.1.101, and set up the port to that). Ive downloaded the most recent firmware for my router (linksys BEFSR41 v4.1), patched my tcp thing for windows sp2 (so its 50 not 10.. or w/e the originaly number was)

not one of these changed my speed at all, it stayed the exact same. any ideas?

O i started havin problems once i downloaded a new utorrent, after reinstalling windows xp pro (the sp2 version that was released over the summer) I have no anit virus software (never used it), my windows firewall is turned off aswell

We know nothing about your exact settings you're using, nor the capabilities of your line...so we cannot say what "slow" or "fast" is.

What settings are you using, as shown by Speed Guide (CTRL+G)?

What advanced settings have you changed, if any?

What's the measured speed of your connection both down and up?

this was using Speedtest.net ....ran the test a bunch of times.

down: 7500 - 8500 kb/s

up: 790 - 933 kb/s

i used a different site to, the speed test that intel.com has, and they wer all over the place. it didnt give any up or down, simply said anywhere from 4.5mbs to 8 mbs.

I have the speed guide at "use current settings" , watever i put this at, really did not make much of a difference... and its hard to tell if it does anything cause the speeds im getting are anywhere from 5 - 35. (upload is always higher, almost twice as much... which is different, never had that)

upload limit = 160kb/s

connections = 155

max active torrents = 4

upload slots = 11

connections (global) = 1000

max active downloads = 3

port(62978)

enable encryption (checked)

i think i changed one thing in the advanced settings (didnt do anything different from normal settings) and that was...net.max_halfopen was changed to 35, i cant remember why idid that, read it somwhere i guess lol.

also my isp is a local one, just north of toronto. we dont really have a choice wat to get up here, but i cant complain because its much faster then rogers.

Firstly, change your Ctrl-G settings to be under xx/768. 932 kibps is ~ 116 KiBps of which you should see a MAXIMUM of around 92KiBps throughput sustained transfer.

Secondly 44 slots into your maximum sustained is ~ 2 KiBps per... wouldn't you rather keep less slots or torrents to keep more throughput and less overhead?

Additionally 1000 connections is OVERKILL. I have 6 Mbit down and I don't even use 500 with 30 torrents running. Change it to 400 max and 50 per torrent. See if any of those suggestions change your speeds. All of them together will definitely make it easier for your computer and connection to handle the bittorrent protocol.

ok i tried changing those settings, and at first (im not sure wat happend) but my dl went up to about 70 - 80kb/s but only for 5mins or so and now is back down to the range stated before =\.

ok still using the settings you gave me, i was gettin speeds from 230 - 260 this time, with it going up to 290 for a sec before dropping back down to 230 - 260. those speeds are nice yes, but shouldnt i still be gettin faster speeds from a file like that with my connection?

i dont really notice and symptons or behaviour problems other then my internet really slows down, but utorrent has ALWAYS done that to my connection (atleast web surfing anyway) and it does it to every computer on my network.

took maybe 3 - 4 mins to reach the speeds posted while downloading if that means anything

thx for the help so far

****UPDATE****

u mentioned somting about the conneciton disconnecting, i think that might be the case, only happens wen u torrent is on tho. i hadnt noticed this but ppl on my msn list had been telling me i was signing off and on all day (even tho it looked as if i wer conencted) and now that i think of it, at times while surfing the web, it wouldnt load a page for 30 - 45secs then would work fine again.

how do i fix that?
