wanty Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 I have had a few issues with my ISP, basically I lost my service for a few hours and when it came back up, Utorrent was unusable. When I open Utorrent all my icons turn red (indicating a tracker error), I cannot get any seeds nor peers, let alone connect to them. I no longer get any triangle at the bottom. I have tried using the Utorrent port checker and every random number I thought of it said it was closed. I manually went into my network connections and opened a few ports but the checker still says they are closed. My ports were correctly forwarded before I had this issue with my ISP and still are but yet I can't download. If you have any tips for me they would be greatly appreciated. I have tried everything I can think of including doing a system restore (I was clutching at straws).I am using Version 1.6.1, my computer is running XP service pack 2 and I connect through a netgear router if that helps. Many thanks. x
DreadWingKnight Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 When I open Utorrent all my icons turn red (indicating a tracker error)What tracker error?I am using Version 1.6.1Why haven't you upgraded to a supported version?
wanty Posted December 17, 2007 Author Report Posted December 17, 2007 What tracker error?I am not sure, I just read on the FAQ that the icons turning red indicates a tracker error. Why haven't you upgraded to a supported version? One of the main torrent sites I use only allows certain versions of Utorrent to be used. This is the most recent one I can use.
DreadWingKnight Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 One of the main torrent sites I use only allows certain versions of Utorrent to be used. Why don't they allow the current version?
wanty Posted December 17, 2007 Author Report Posted December 17, 2007 To be honest I don't have a clue. This is their statement on the matter. we no longer have a banned list but rather an allowed list We will be adding clients to the allow list based on what the site ops and coders decide so this is not open for member decision ... all clients are banned unless their in the following list (we tried to cover all the good ones)Unfortunately it is one of the best sites I have come across.I have tried unnstalling but couldn't find an uninstaller so just reinstalled from the site and it didn't change anything.
DreadWingKnight Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 Unfortunately it is one of the best sites I have come across. If the best site you've come across is run by lemmings (the only way I can describe ANY admin that banned uT now), then it's not worth using.http://torrenthelp.depthstrike.com/2007/07/utorrent-171-and-all-claims-about.html(we tried to cover all the good ones)They failed. And we don't support 1.6.1http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=11601
wanty Posted December 17, 2007 Author Report Posted December 17, 2007 Ok I just downloaded and installed 1.7.5 and the same is still happening.
DreadWingKnight Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 Get the tracker error from the general tab then.
wanty Posted December 17, 2007 Author Report Posted December 17, 2007 It says Offline (Timed out)I presume thats the bit you mean.Oh, and thank you for the very fast responces.
jewelisheaven Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 If your ISP dropped out it is possible they are not fully functional. Have you tried the Open Office torrents? If it is your ISP getting things running again it may take a few more hours than you would like. Do you know the specifics of your outage? It is also possible your ISP is on the Bad ISPs list.Generally speaking unless your settings change it will work itself out (unless your IP / settings are manually set and they have changed).I would try OpenOffice first, see what kind of functionality you get with them.
DreadWingKnight Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 yup.Does the problem persist with OpenOffice torrents?
wanty Posted December 17, 2007 Author Report Posted December 17, 2007 Yes the same happens with the open office (I tried that before posting to be on the safe side, I should have mentioned that sorry)Its been about a week or so since my ISP dropped out, it is on the bad list but was absolutly fine before the drop out. The outage was due to a problem at my local exchange. My external IP has changed but from what I could gather from portforwarding.com all my settings are still correct.
DreadWingKnight Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 If OpenOffice torrents give the same issue, then the problem is somewhere in your setup. What software firewall do you have?
wanty Posted December 17, 2007 Author Report Posted December 17, 2007 I am using windows firewall and it is in my allowed list.
DreadWingKnight Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 All this and I didn't even bother checking to see what your ISP was. It's on my personal "red flag" list unfortunately. One of the ones known to be p2p hostile.
wanty Posted December 17, 2007 Author Report Posted December 17, 2007 I take it red flag is worse than the bad list? lolI can still use limewire and its ilk, but its just torrent clients.
DreadWingKnight Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 red flag is bad, basically your ISP is known (and confirmed) to be anti-bittorrent (and possibly anti-p2p in general)Unfortunately, there's no workaround. Only changing to an ISP that isn't anti-bt.
wanty Posted December 17, 2007 Author Report Posted December 17, 2007 OK thanks. I will have to look on my ISPs forum to see if anyone else if having the same problems and if they have managed to sort something out. I have just upgraded with them too meaning I am in another 12 month contract.I used to be throttled in the evening but nothing like this. The fact all my ports are closed is confusing and was hoping this was the proble,
jewelisheaven Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 Heh it is possible retro-grading your service may give you the same connectivity? If you pay more, it's possible they put you on the HIGH-END throttling equipment
wanty Posted December 17, 2007 Author Report Posted December 17, 2007 lol I haven't gone up in my linespeed, I have just added a phoneline and the tv package.
jewelisheaven Posted December 17, 2007 Report Posted December 17, 2007 AHH! well that's how they get you, with these bundled packages. I'm running out of options in my area for example. Sure I can get good fiber internet for $60, but that's only a little over what I pay right now for TV + internet. I don't even bother with phone service as cell phone towers dot my area, and if I need to make international calls skype does that just fine.
