hackroot Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Hello. I am here because other forums do not know what to do and I am in great need of help. Recently in the past week my u torrent has been acting up. My download speed is over 500kbs and I only get 200kbs. This was fine but then 3 days ago my maximum dl speed became less than 50 and yesterday it was 30kbs. Now it is 6kbs. I have just installed and reinstalled u torrent. Also in the last hour i have installed bit defender 2008. No one seems to know why my speeds are so low. Also i am downloading the open office torrent atm. Please if anyone has any ideas help me.
jewelisheaven Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Check the torrent found @ http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/What behavour do you notice there.
hackroot Posted December 19, 2007 Author Report Posted December 19, 2007 I notice that im downloading it like i said above in my post. The speeds on this one do not exceed 200kbs. This is odd because all my other downloads no not exceed 50kbs. What could be the reason for this. Any other download and it goes slow. All other downloads are now at 7kbs. And this is when i only download on thing at once
jewelisheaven Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 It is the swarm if you are able to "Max out" your download on the openoffice. All you can do is make sure you are uploading a fair and reasonable amount ( > 6 KiBps per slot) and the fast peers will reward you.Unfortunately many people incorrectly configure their client... that is life.Another reason OpenOffice is useful is that it verifies the firewalled state (If they see "I" peers) without going through anymore router/firewall setup madness.
hackroot Posted December 19, 2007 Author Report Posted December 19, 2007 So you are telling me im fine and its all ok? If so im very very happy. Would you like to inform me on how to set it up right. Also does my share ratio have anything to do with this. Because now that i have reinstalled it. My ratio is beyond low. Its really low. Any ideas on what to seed becuase downloading anything will take weeks.
jewelisheaven Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 If the OpenOffice torrent changed your status icon to a green checkmark, and you were able to max your download then yes you are setup correctly for your connection. The only possibility I can suggest is making SURE for your upload you have it set that so your TOTAL UPLOAD (through Ctrl-G) divided by the number of torrents * number of upload slots (total upload slots) is not LOWER than 5 KiBps.I have 30 KiBps, so I have 3 torrents running with 2 upload slots.
Switeck Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 I'd say even as low as 3 KiloBYTES/sec upload speed per upload slot is perfectly fine. ...do note that there will be some if not many that fail to reach even that speed, while others may be above that on average.Below 1 KiloBYTE/sec upload speed per upload slot is breaking compatibility with the BitTorrent protocol...and if it runs at all like that, you should be happy.
hackroot Posted December 20, 2007 Author Report Posted December 20, 2007 Ok it is happening again whenever i try to download something that is not open office or slackerware it is going really slow. I dled and album thought and it went like 210kbsEDIT: ok guys i figured out my problem if i am downloading and i have my upload speed set to like 1kbps then my dl speed goes down. I have it set to 42kbps now which it never reaches and im dling like fast really fast
Switeck Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 Try running Speed Guide (CTRL+G) and choose xx/384k setting.
