You want to read The Beginner's Guide for starters.

Additionally, there is no need to worry about disconnecting in the middle, the way the bittorrent protocol works allows you to "resume" your download if you have to stop in the middle.

After reading the background, you should try setting up your uTorrent with this helpful guide.

Nope. Each file is a byte-for-byte copy of the original. When uT finishes hashing and checking after you hit 100% you are done and complete. This may not be true in the event of crashes or path changes (moving say from C: to D:) which is why in those instances uT automatically re-checks the file (When you start it it doesn't say downloading, it goes through a "checking 0% - 100%" phase).
