jewelisheaven Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 The problem here isn't necessarily any of the 5 W's... it's the precedent which is created. Reading about the multiple tracker site shutdowns... you notice that many small sites go away unnoticed. The way US imperialism drives in this digital age is a horrible portent of things to come if indeed US law can be precedented across sovereign boundaries and through local laws. Notice the beeb only mentioned the judge ruled a default judgment... as the story was covered elsewhere it mentioned some more specifics relating to the specific ruling... the ruling made NO allusions to so-called alleged copyright infringement. The ruling was based upon the evidence "tampering" ... and so it is possible that the appeal on grounds of privacy may kick the trial back down to a lower court to address the REAL issue the *AA axis are trying to filibuster. As it is with the legal system in the US being so slow and laborious, I'd expect the next BIG update for this story to happen sometime in 2009.Thanks for the link repeteor.
Clinch Posted December 21, 2007 Report Posted December 21, 2007 it was a default ruling. They could of won until they went and did the stupid.
repeteor Posted December 21, 2007 Author Report Posted December 21, 2007 well this is just the snowball, France is now putting the heat on there isp's "Net firms will monitor what their customers are doing and pass on information about persistent pirates to the new independent body "and it wont be long before it is standard law in the EU. There is a way around all this but it's not a walk in the park.
