Snesgamer Posted December 26, 2007 Report Posted December 26, 2007 In my speed guide, and also in ShieldsUp! None of my ports seem to be open (and ShieldsUp tells me that, with the exception of one closed port, every single port is in "Stealth" mode). I am running no outside Firewall software, and have Windows Firewall turned off (and have uTorrent listed as an exception in the options area anyhow). I have tried port forwarding as instructed by portforward.com.I have a D-Link DCM-202 modem and a D-Link WBR-1310 router. My downloads use to work quite well. One day, they just went AWOL, and I've been permanently in the yellow. The only hint of green I've ever seen was once when I was messing around with the "Internet Connection Sharing" settings (but was greeted with a "Internet Connection Sharing cannot be enabled. A LAN connection is already configured with the IP address that is required for automatic IP addressing" message).
jewelisheaven Posted December 26, 2007 Report Posted December 26, 2007 Have you followed the "Setting up your Connection" guide on the Guides page?Stealth means it didn't detect open or closed, which means you may be testing on the wrong port? Also you can try http://canyouseeme.org as a port checker.Verifying no incoming connections can be used through http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/ They are homed on multi-location servers which can maximize anyone's connection.
Snesgamer Posted December 26, 2007 Author Report Posted December 26, 2007 None of that stuff worked unfortunately.
Switeck Posted December 26, 2007 Report Posted December 26, 2007 You may have more than 1 firewall that you have to disable, remove, or configure.Even antivirus and antispyware software often contains a lite software firewall nowadays.
Snesgamer Posted December 26, 2007 Author Report Posted December 26, 2007 Okay, I temporarily uninstalled all my major anti-spyware, etc. programs - but still I get a green light. Any ideas?
Switeck Posted December 26, 2007 Report Posted December 26, 2007 If you still don't get a green light, run HijackThis! and post the log it generates here as part of your message. Chances are it's something pretty nasty...or there's a software firewall in yet another commercial product you have. You wouldn't be unfortunate enough to be on ComCast Cable ISP by any chance? ComCast does some port blocking at their server-side that you can't fix/disable...but it's usually only incoming ports 25 and 80 as far as I know.

jewelisheaven Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Erm.. I couldn't find anything on : O2 - BHO: (no name) - {b0ff0af2-71b5-43a9-941f-ffe9a27ffb22} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\siheody.dllI think it would be a good idea for you to find out what that is.If it also possible your Yahoo / AOL toolbars come with a firewall "feature"... I have no idea where one would look to check or turn it off though. As for the VAIO services it doesn't look like they'd cause problems. Here's a radical solution since it worked before, but could you directly connect to the modem and see if you get the same speeds, or better speeds. Many ISPs link your line to your MAC address as well as the modem they give you, so if it was originally setup for that, and you configured it with your router, but then the router configuration was reset, this could be the case.
