moomoo Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 hi all. i wanted to ask for help since i don't know what is going on with my utorrent (1st time using it). i can't get past 20k/s at all.i have a cable (roadrunner/comcast) connection on a netgear rt314 router with no firewalls or anti-virus programs. the icon at the bottom of the screen is always green and when i do a speed check on my port it says port is open at the beginning then error! not open later on. i have left utorrent running for hrs. to see if it picks up but it gets stuck below 20k/s.i have tried using the port forwarding method guide to see if it helps but i don't know if i am setting it up right because its still slow. what i wanted to ask is how to fix it like what my settings should be or if i need to do somethinganother quick thing is utorrent slows down my connection a lot where i can't browse websites or use the internet while its running. is that a part of the problem or i can fix that also?let me know if i need to add any other info. thanks for all the help
jewelisheaven Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 If you are adventurous and want to try out a new un-released pre-beta 1.8 version you can try here to see if it can get around ISP traffic shaping :/ Otherwise you're pretty much stuck with what they put you on if you're ALREADY running in minimal mode. (read as: no DHT no LPD no resolve IP and low concurrent connection count)
Switeck Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 Almost nobody ever talks about how bad their upload speed is...but that's more revealing of what the problems really are!So...are you uploading roughly as fast as you're downloading?(After all, the whole torrent system HAS to balance!)Are you uploading steady very close to the upload speed limit you set in µTorrent?(If not, then your connection may not be as fast as you thought...or your ISP is being hostile to BitTorrent traffic...or few peers are trying to download from you on the active torrents you have running.)BTW, setting upload speed limit to "unlimited" can render a connection UNUSABLE. Almost nobody has a line that fast.
