chrisling Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Hi, I have a major problem by using uTorrent. Everytime I start download something using uTorrent, the internet connection will stop functioning. But at the same time uTorrent can keep downloads all sort of stuffs that I wanted to download. Once I quit uTorrent the internet will once again work. My friends seem having same problem too when I run uTorrent. We both share the internet connection by using router. Once I start running uTorrent he will face the same problem too. I leave everything as default as I installed uTorrent. Except I done the port forward and speed limitation by 60 kb/s for download and 12 kb/s for upload.I hope I can get the answer as soon as possible otherwise I'll give up using such wonderful tool as torrent downloader. Thank you.
jewelisheaven Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Make sure you are not overloading your connection. Please run the speed test under Ctrl-G (Speed Guide), and set the drop down accordingly. If that is already done, maybe your router is unable to handle the concurrent connections generated by uT. Can you take a picture of your Speed Guide settings and upload it somewhere online (tinypic.com or imageshack.us are free)?
Switeck Posted December 27, 2007 Report Posted December 27, 2007 Once again, it sounds like µTorrent's extra features are crippling the router rather than upload/download speeds being too high. Have you tried Ultima's Troubleshooting Guide?:http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992...It lists additional information we'll need if nothing helped.
chrisling Posted December 27, 2007 Author Report Posted December 27, 2007 Actually I already tried the setup guide from Ultima. But didn't follow the instruction in interupted offline tracker section. I'll try that from now on but it gonna takes me some time to see whether it works or not. Thanks for your help guys. Update:Well, I had tested the new configuration for few days. As the result the problem still persist. But it is going just a bit better, the connection will keep disconnected while using uTorrent.
Ultima Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 You should be posting the requested information then.
chrisling Posted December 31, 2007 Author Report Posted December 31, 2007 This is the speed guide screen shot
Ultima Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 ... The link Switeck provided asks for more information than just what the Speed Guide shows. Can you post them?

Firon Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 your upload cap needs to be lower, and you should try turning DHT off.
Ultima Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 You might want to try selecting xx/128k, or even xx/96k if that doesn't help.
chrisling Posted December 31, 2007 Author Report Posted December 31, 2007 I need few days to try them out, thanks guys
Switeck Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 If you only allow 12 KiloBYTES/sec total upload speed, it is terribly unfair to others to spread it between 6 different torrents AND 6 different peers on EACH torrent. That's a 36-way split of only 12 KiloBYTES/sec! Meaning on average each person you're uploading to at any given moment only gets 0.333 KiloBYTES/sec each! You shouldn't be needing 200 total connections to max out a 1/2 megabit/sec download line. (More like 50 on a bad day, 10 on a good.)Having too many connections at once actually reduces download speeds...that's why dial-up modems don't also have 100 connections at once.Streamyx, like many other ISPs in the SE Asia region, throttled BitTorrent pretty heavily from what I've heard. You may need to study the Azureus WIKI for overcoming/reducing throttling effects for that ISP.While I have some distrust for Google Toolbar (Adware/Spyware?) and "no file" entries can be bad, your HijackThis! log looks ok to me...but I haven't done a dissection on everything, just glanced it over.
Peter12 Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 I don't know that much about uTorrent, but I had the exact same problem. I had McAfee antivirus and when I removed it completely all the problems were gone... so maybe it is you antivirus (eventhought it isn't McAfee on your computer). Maybe it wil help?
chrisling Posted January 1, 2008 Author Report Posted January 1, 2008 Previously I tested my internet connection speed on USA server. And this is my latest speed tested on Malaysia server: 755.52 kbit/s for download and 293.04 kbit/s for upload. So should I use connection type of xx/768k? Should I ebable encryption to avoid ISP throttling problem?
Switeck Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 No, you should use a setting based on your UPLOAD max -- NOT your download! So xx/256k instead.Yes, enable compression for outgoing.Try both with and without incoming legacy connections allowed too, to see if speeds increase with one or the other.
Ultima Posted January 2, 2008 Report Posted January 2, 2008 ...? I wouldn't suggest xx/256k -- not with the results chrisling is getting on the speed tests (less than 128kbps).And Google Toolbar isn't spyware/adware -- it's just annoying
Switeck Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 "latest speed tested on Malaysia server: 755.52 kbit/s for download and 293.04 kbit/s for upload"At least locally, he has at least 256 kilobits/sec upload speed. That's why I suggested xx/256k.
Lord Alderaan Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 I suggest doing a speedtest to NA/EU. (Use the Speedtest button in the speedguide. Pick Flash8 and pick a American/European server which has a lot of room.)I have this idea in my head nagging me that Malaysia has limited or capped international lines. That would mean that when µtorrent is going at its full international speed you would have trouble connecting to website outside Malaysia but not to local websites.
Mocko Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 I have exactly the same problem using utorrent 1.7.5 (build 4602) on Vista Ultimate 32-Bit. I've tried many configuration settings posted on this forum but nothing helped.I have 20Mb DSL connection, using Tilgin Vood 422 Modem/Router.With Vista 32-Bit and utorrent, web browsing is impossible (the connection will keep disconnected while using uTorrent). With XP Pro 32-Bit, with same utorrent settings, I have the same problem posted here:http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=33948I think, there is some problem with utorrent, cause there is to much people on different connections having the same issue.Best regards,
Firon Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 Works for me.Read this thread and follow the instructions in it. http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=15992
chrisling Posted January 5, 2008 Author Report Posted January 5, 2008 Sad to say that all my housemates have already come back. And they consume a lot of bandwidth...I don't know how they use it, their computer might have bugs and malwares, I can ping with less than 100ms to DNS server but once they on line I get 1k ms to DNS server. I'll block their internet traffic if this problem persist, hehehe...Okay back to topic, before they came back when I use uTorrent the connection seems okay with the new settings. HOwever I need few more days to test it, when they are having holidays again Google Toolbar isn't an adware, it is a legitimate entry according to CastleCops and most of the ASAP forums. No file entries in R2, 09 and 023 entries are bugging. Some legitimate program such as Java will be shown as '(no file)' in 09 entry, and it is persisted even in the latest version of HJT.Thanks again guys, I am really appreciate them. I'll update my case once I have the result. Take care.
Switeck Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 If your pings shoot way up when they turn their computer on, you might want to offer them help cleaning the garbage off.If it's because they're using file-sharing programs too, then either they need to also use very low upload speed limits or you all need to consolidate to 1 "file server" that does file sharing.
lacipher Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 I have the same problem, it seems to happen when i try to download this torrent: magnet:?xt=urn:btih:QQWHM34LWZSLEW5MIYBNLXN2QYGD3BQI (What The Bleep Meets Kabbalah).
