BitComet gets me higher speeds than Utorrent

Hi everyone,

Ive been using BitComet for nearly a year now and I recently downloaded Utorrent just to try it out since its a much lighter software. While using BitComet I never had any issues, always got a speed of around 20-25 kB/s sometimes if I was really lucky it would tip to 70 kB/s and on an extremely rare circumstance it would go much higher. But on Utorrent speeds never go above 8-12 kB/s. Ive always used Windows Firewall (XP sp2) with bitcmet but never had any major speed issues, Ive already opened up half connections. Reading what people have to say about windows firewall, I installed Zone Alarm but my speeds still havent increased at all.

Is there any thing Ive missed out? Can I solve this problem because Im begining to like the Utorrent interface and I'd like to switch over if my speeds come right.

Also is it possible to transfer a half completed torrent to utorrent and start where its left off?

Thanks you guys! :D

Yes you can transfer half-finished torrents!

...using Migration Guide:

Zone Alarm generally sucks for file sharing. Maybe the latest version won't completely cripple file sharing, but with its track record...why trust it?

Windows XP's firewall is plenty good enough to block incoming junk.

If you have outgoing junk to worry about, it's already too late. :P

Have you tried Ultima's Troubleshooting Guide?:

Hey Switeck I managed to transfer half compelted torrents- thanks for that! :D

After going through Ultimas guide i managed to get my speeds up to 15-17 kB/s thats way better than 10-12.. still not 20-25 like BComet but its a great start!

thanks a lot you guys :D (Switeck & Ultima)

The v1.8 alpha of uTorrent is getting improved to work behind hostile ISPs, so that might be a little faster than you...but expect it to crash occasionally till it becomes a beta. :P

Zone Alarm's bad? Is that only the firewall part of it, or should I be concerned if I have it only for antivirus, too?

As of v7, it uses Kaspersky's antivirus engine, so the antivirus component itself isn't so bad. Whether it's integrated well is another question (for which I've no answer to). The firewall component was, when I last tested, not that bad, aside from the atrocious memory leak. So uh, anyway, I would advise against using ZA (as would most/all of the regulars here).

Comodo Firewall Pro v3 has been a decent firewall in my experience. Many users have complained about its Defense+ HIPS component being problematic, so I have that disabled (and consequently, haven't run into any problems with the firewall).
