angeskye Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 I spent all morning trying to get utorrent to run, finally worked out I couldn't have a static ip with my isp, but forwarded a port and finalllllly got that damn orange triangle to go green! (sorry the excitement lol, feeling pretty good i worked it out!)So, I downloaded my 175mb file at a good speed but now it is sitting in "completed" and "inactive"Considering this whole thing is about sharing (and for the sake of good karma), obviously I would like to still be able to upload this file to others. My questions:1) can I move the completed video file I now have to different folder on my pc or does it have to stay where it is so utorrent can find it?2) do I have to move the "completed" torrent to "active" or somewhere so people can upload it?there were people uploading as I was downloading but now my d/l has finished they are gone! Thanks so much! I hope this wasn't covered anywhere else, I did search but most of the posts seem to be how to get it running which i managed! Thanks again!Ange. =)
muay Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 morning im new this myself(it feels good to get that green light)but when i have moved the file and then put utorrent back on it says error and will not seed it so i just leave them till i have given back what i have took or more. i have never moved the torrent to active and they seed ok. this may not be right but its what i do. good luck.
ajones81 Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 Good that you want to seed - without that, the whole system is bound to collapse. If you want to seed, just leave the torrent running, it will begin seeding after you've downloaded all of it (100%). You upload while you're downloading as well, but you're a seed only when you have 100% of the file. You can also check out the options in Preferences -> Queueing. Here're my settings:In "Seed While", put anything >= 100%, and if you want seeding to cease when the torrent has seeded that percentage, check the "Limit" option and enter 0 kB/s in the "Limit" textbox. If you just want seeding to slow down, enter something other than 0.If you want to move the file, stop the torrent first! Then go ahead and move the files but don't rename them or you can't seed. Once moved, right-click the stopped torrent and select the Advanced -> Set download location... option. Set the download location to the new directory where you moved the files. If you downloaded a directory, be sure to select the directory one level above i.e. the parent directory in which the downloaded directory resides. Now right-click the torrent and select the Force Re-Check option (not really necessary, but good to do it beforehand as a re-check is needed at some point anyway). The files will be checked again and the bar should fill up to 100% again. Now start the torrent and you'll begin seeding. The instructions might seem verbose but trust me, there's nothing to it. Cheers! there were people uploading as I was downloading but now my d/l has finished they are gone! Those were the seeds you were downloading from. Now that you have 100% of the file and are a (potential) seed yourself, there's no need to connect to them any longer. What you want is for peers to connect to you as you seed the file yourself.Any problems, check the Guides, the FAQ etc. (recommended anyway), or post back here.
angeskye Posted December 29, 2007 Author Report Posted December 29, 2007 wow, thanks for you quick replies! Excellent instructions ajones81! I only wanted to move the file as I saved it to my desktop expecting I would never get utorrent to work properly lol! Now I have moved the file where i want it and (thanks to your help) I am now a Seeder!Cheers,Ange. =)
mentasm Posted February 14, 2008 Report Posted February 14, 2008 thanks ajones81!it would be good to have an option 'move location' or something, i have some hundreds of torrents seeding, that are now in the wrong location (i just bought a new disk, and need the space on the old one) it's a lot of work this way...a simple option 'change location' for torrents that are seeding, to do a batch as a whole would've been so good right now!
Ultima Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 FWIW, batch path changes can be handled using BEncode Editor.
jewelisheaven Posted February 17, 2008 Report Posted February 17, 2008 To do that, you have to a) get B.F.E. read the readme and caution c) PLEASE NOTE: Backing up ALL relevant files before editing is recommended as B.F.E. comes with little additional support without specific questions. d) use Find/Replace function to go OLD\PATH -> NEW\PATH e) Profit!
JenniBee Posted September 11, 2010 Report Posted September 11, 2010 @ajones81Thank YOU so very much for that screenshot and information. I'm also new to seeding and figuring out the settings was driving me crazy.I've had the green arrow showing saying I was seeding but it would just stop and I never could figure out whether it was still working or not. Also, it never showed how much I had seeded or an upload speed.I've searched and searched trying to find help on my settings so again, THANK YOU. I'm going to look around here and see if I can find more NEWBIE setup information tips. I may need to adjust some of my other settings.Jenn
Cadwell Parker Posted September 12, 2010 Report Posted September 12, 2010 Re. moving files that are seeding...Try going options-preferences-directories and enter the folder you would like you completed files to end up in in the field marked move completed downloads to...HTH
