Thunder Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Hi,It's normal that I find µTorrent in the Add/remove programs whereas I used only the .exe file (no installation) ?Win XP SP2µT 1.7.5Thanks.
ajones81 Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 There is no separate installer for uTorrent (yeah, it's not like most other Windows programs!)But when you ran it the first time, it would have asked you if you want to add Start Menu shortcuts etc. and then would have moved itself to Program Files\uTorrent by default unless you unchecked those options. So that initial run sort of acts like an unconventional installer of sorts and adds icons, entries to the Add/Remove list etc.Nothing wrong with it, don't worry.
Thunder Posted December 30, 2007 Author Report Posted December 30, 2007 But when you ran it the first time, it would have asked you if you want to add Start Menu shortcuts etc. and then would have moved itself to Program Files\uTorrent by default. No, it didn't ask me. I have done all that by my self.unless you unchecked those options.I don't see these options that you talk about. sorry. So in the end, If I want to uninstall µT I have to go through the add/remove programs, and it's not montioned in the FAQ.PS. I haven't this kind of thing with the 1.6 series (µT in the add/remove programes).
ajones81 Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 You must have selected those options at some time in the past with an older version perhaps. AFAIK, this has been the behaviour for a long time now, including with 1.6.x. It only asks once, not once per version. So some previous install has put the program in the Add/Remove list and it's been there ever since. If you uninstall it once (make sure the settings dir. i.e. %AppData%\uTorrent is really gone), then any time you try to run the program again, you should see those options I'm talking about. Try it if you want to confirm the behaviour.
Firon Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 The only way it's added there is if you told it YES when it asked to install (first time you ran 1.7.x).
