Kalalau
I have been downloading torrents for quite a while now with no problems.Recently however after my bittorrent client downloads a file successfully I am unable to find the file in the location it says that it downloaded it to. I have downloaded several files only to be unable to locate them. When I do a search for the file I get nothing.I am really at a loss. I also tried using another torrent client to download and the same thing happens.Any ideas?Thank you very much,Kal
funchords
The drive may have corrupted directories, and the information is being added after the corrupted part. In My Computer, select the drive and right-click, choose Properties. Then check the integrity of the drive allowing it to automatically fix problems. It may tell you that it needs to schedule the check after a restart. If so, reboot the computer and let the check complete normally. After doing the above, then start uTorrent and choose two new locations for now (you may change them back after testing):1. The destination directory for new downloads (this is where incomplete downloads will be stored).2. The destination directory for completed downloads. Now download a small file to download and test to see if the situation has improved.
ajones81
Just to add to what funchords said, are you downloading to an external/USB drive? Make sure it's properly connected and accessible. Run Chkdsk /R on it just to be sure it's working ok.Try downloading something small as he said to the root directory of a fixed disk and check. Kalalau
Thanks for your help. I am using a fixed disk, did as you suggested and it came up clean. I tried downloading another file and it said it downloaded successfully but it does not show up on the drive.Kal
DreadWingKnight
Have you tried manually specifying a location and monitoring that location for the file?
Kalalau
Yes, I have manually specified a location but the file never shows up. When it worked the file name would show up immediately after I started the download. Now nothing appears during or after download completes. It is really perplexing. I have no idea when the downloaded file is going. All the checkdisks come up clean.Kal
ajones81
While downloading, press enter on the torrent and see which directory opens and what's in it. The files have to be somewhere after all, right!I also think you should run a thorough malware scan on your system.
Kalalau
I did what you suggested and a window popped up saying C:\Documents and Settings\Kalalau\My documents\newtorrents\name of file refers to a location that is not available. It could be on a hard drive on this computer or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted or that you are connected to the internet and try again. If it still cannot be located it might have been moved to a different location.I am not on a network. I have no idea what they are talking about with respect to properly inserting a disk since this is a fixed hard drive. And as far as being in a different location when I do a search of the hard drive I come up empty. This is very strange. Thanks for your help.Kal
Switeck
"C:\Documents and Settings\Kalalau\My documents\newtorrents\name of file"Is a pretty long pathname. In the event that your torrents have filenames in excess of maybe 80 characters...that could be a problem right there?Try something simpler like this:C:\newtorrents\name of file
Kalalau
Still did not work. I also posted on Usenet and someone suggested that it sounded like I may have accidentally deleted some files that identify my user login information so that it won't allow me to download files. I am not sure how that works or how to find out if that is the problem.I also tried to hook up a portable hard drive and send the downloaded file there but got the same result. Thanks again.Kal
ajones81
Try to create a new user and download to a folder such as C:\Downloads, where the C drive is part of a fixed disk. Let us know if any error pops up.
Kalalau
I was able to create new user and was able to download the file to a directory under the new user. Now I have to figure out why the old user is not working. Thanks for your help.Kal
