Seederado Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 Sometimes, a torrent was hopelessly stuck so I closed it and go look for the missing/ incomplete file(s) somewhere else. Then I delete the incomplete files (overwrite didn't seem to work) and deposit the good files in their places (directory.) I started up the torrent again and every peers complete the download. I have done this a few times. However, this time I find and add one or a few files at a time, start up the stuck torrent again and go look for some more files. I noticed that every time I restart the torrent that I was trying to unstuck, the number of seed reported by all trackers increased by one. utorrent still list the number of seed is zero in the seed column but under Transfer statistic it keeps saying there are many seeds in the swarm (and never get any connection to these phantom seeders.) Worse yet, I also notice the number of peers increased dramatically after ward.I have not used any other torrent clients for over two years so I don't know if this bug is common or only utorrent does it.
Ultima Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 If the number in the scrape keeps increasing, then blame the tracker for not checking the peers list for duplicates before incrementing the count.
Seederado Posted January 1, 2008 Author Report Posted January 1, 2008 Is there a way to tell utorrent that I'm not a seeder since I don't have all the files? the number of seeders reported by all trackers increment immediately while it's still checking my files. It looks like utorrent can not declare(retract?) that I'm not a seeder anymore after it's done checking my files and realized that I don't have all the torrent's files. Also, the number of seeders does not decrease when I closed the torrent to replace incomplete/missing files. The number of peers increased dramatically because people see there are seeders for the torrent and start joining it.
DreadWingKnight Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 uTorrent doesn't interact with the trackers in that way while re-checking. I don't know what behavior you're claiming to see, but it's not uTorrent incrementing seed numbers while checking.
