bu10may Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 Hi, ive been using utorrent since its release almost, i dont know why i never registered on the forums. but anyways, i have hide ip platinum, and it does change my ip address through the different proxies. supposedly it doesnt work with p2p. In utorrents options i copied the ip to the option "ip reported to tracker". Next, i put the port it used into the speed guide (it was port 80). i checked the port, and it reported that the port was opened at the ip address that was from the dominican republic. My question is: does the ip obtained from the proxies show up in utorrent to other users or does my actual ip address show.i wonder because in peerguardian, a few blocks came up that were trying to access my actual ip address.thanks in advance for your help
DreadWingKnight Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 Your actual IP address shows because you don't proxy peer connections. As for using peerguardian:http://neuron2neuron.blogspot.com/2006/05/blocklist-balderdash.htmlhttp://www.slyck.com/story1593_MediaDefender_Leak_Offers_BlueTack_Users_a_Reality_Check
bu10may Posted December 31, 2007 Author Report Posted December 31, 2007 those are interesting articles about peerguardian.so the Hide IP program is essentially useless?
DreadWingKnight Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 Pretty much, and in the long run it's just going to slow your transfers down anyway.
bu10may Posted December 31, 2007 Author Report Posted December 31, 2007 if the hide ip program is useless, then how is a VPN effective? VPN go through overseas servers right?
DreadWingKnight Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 And can still eventually be tracked back to you.The VPN services are only really for people who have really fucktard-ish isps.
bu10may Posted December 31, 2007 Author Report Posted December 31, 2007 i see, thanks for your help, just curious, what do you do to protect yourself or ip address?
DreadWingKnight Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 I don't bother. There's no point. If they want to find me, they will. The same goes for you or anyone else.
harshang2007 Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 Please Tell me how to hide the tray icon when the system boots i mean without an user interface? They have mentioned switch like "/HIDE" but how to use this plt tell me
jewelisheaven Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 Where you launch uT from, whether it's the desktop or run... "path\to\utorrent.exe" /HIDEIt will bring up uT in boss key mode. MAKE SURE YOU SET A BOSSKEY prior to using this.
