Dr Donut Man Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 I read all the guides. No matter what I try, I can't forward my ports and all torrents go slow as hell.I tried the openoffice and Ubuntu torrents and they capped @ 300kbps(far from what a speed test from dslreports said[~3mbps]) and my average torrents go 30kbps.Peer dl. says everyone has at least like 90-900kbps while I get 30.---My router is a Belkin F5D7230-4 6000My ISP: AT&T 3mbps packageStatus thing is yellow. My system specs are:Core 2 quad @ 3.01GHz2 GB Ram1950 Pro---PLZ help.I know somethings wrong because when I used a crappy Sprint Broadband card at my Dad's house I got 100kbps downloads :|
Ultima Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 A 3mbps connection is theoretically capable of only attaining 375KiB/s, so getting 300KiB/s on such a connection is considered good. As for the port forwarding issue... Are you using a modem? What firewall are you using? Have you set a static LAN IP up for your computer outside of the router's DHCP range?
Dr Donut Man Posted January 4, 2008 Author Report Posted January 4, 2008 Yeah I've got a modem, and my IP is always 192.168.2.2.,I only use windows firewall. But the speed test said 3000kbps?
Ultima Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 kbps is kilobits per second. µTorrent is displaying kilobytes per second. 1 byte = 8 bits.Your IP is not necessarily a static IP, and I highly doubt that it's outside of the router's DHCP range.Check your router configuration and look for the DHCP range. After you figure it out, check this page to figure out how to set a static IP up -- outside of the DHCP range.
Dr Donut Man Posted January 4, 2008 Author Report Posted January 4, 2008 Alright I'm using this site so the Static IP works. Status is still yellow. Yes, I forwarded my port to my new IP.
Ultima Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 Er, sorry -- I asked the wrong question earlier. I meant to ask what modem you were using ;DJust curious... What was the router's DHCP range, and what did you set the static IP to? (Just making extra sure it's not the problem)Edit: Also, the port checker in the Speed Guide does say that the port isn't open, right?
Dr Donut Man Posted January 4, 2008 Author Report Posted January 4, 2008 I'm using a Westell c-90-610030-06 modemhttp://www.bizsyscon.com/pics/WESTELL_C90-610030.jpgDHCP Range = 192.168.2.(2 - 100) (mines 136)Error! Port 18075 does not appear to be open.
Switeck Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 Almost nobody ever talks about how bad their upload speed is...but that's more revealing of what the problems really are!So...are you uploading roughly as fast as you're downloading?(After all, the whole torrent system HAS to balance!)Are you uploading steady very close to the upload speed limit you set in µTorrent?(If not, then your connection may not be as fast as you thought...or your ISP is being hostile to BitTorrent traffic...or few peers are trying to download from you on the active torrents you have running.)
Dr Donut Man Posted January 5, 2008 Author Report Posted January 5, 2008 I got my green check and everything seems to be going fine just not 300kibps, around 120kibps.Thanks for all the help(Can't w8 for verizon fios to get over here)
deanouk123 Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 DR Donut Mancan i ask how your getting speeds like that can u help me plz
Ultima Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 http://www.google.com/search?num=100&q=c90-610030-06Your modem is a router; you're double-NAT'd. Check the user manual's advanced port forwarding guide.
kris1811 Posted April 27, 2009 Report Posted April 27, 2009 Hi, I was downloading from one small (~83 MB) torrent at ~56 Kb/s, but when that torrent finished downloading and I started a slightly larger torrent (~110 MB) my download rate dropped to a maximum of ~1.25 Kb/sWhat can I do to get my download rate back up?
