pingu_turbo Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 Hi, Im new to utorrent. I have never had it working at all. I keep gettin the same message when i add a torrent to download. I have read a couple of other posts and they say to download a openoffice torrent, which it does very slowly (0.2kb/s), with the same message, connection closed by peer, wilst the little red arrow symbol is visable. Im not wireless and my firewall is open to utorrent, also tried turning it off. Just a straightforward plug in and go broadband. I have recently downloaded this on my desktop with xp, on the same internet connection and it all works. Is it vista thats the problem? Or am i being stupid? can anyone shed some light?
jewelisheaven Posted January 4, 2008 Report Posted January 4, 2008 Have you changed any of the settings after going through http://utorrent.com/setup_guide.php ? What specific steps from Ultima's How-To for Troubleshooting have you tried? Can you continue reading through that and update your status on the problem and steps you have taken, along with other software you have which may interfere? What AV do you use? What firewall did you configure? Are you using any other "security" software?
pingu_turbo Posted January 8, 2008 Author Report Posted January 8, 2008 Hi there i have been through the set up guide. I have tested my connection speed, set the upload speed, enabled the encryption, been through the firewall settings although none of them specified to my fire wall, i have tried turning my firewall on/off, it is set to allow traffic from utorrent. I have changed the port setting. Im just all out of ideas. My av/firewall sortware is mc affe, its a free trial with my laptop. Im not sure if im gonna keep it or not yet, also as far as im aware im not using any more known of security sortware. Basically its a new laptop with software for my ipod and camera so far. None of what i have done makes any difference to utorrent.
jewelisheaven Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Unfortunately I cannot help you with specifics regarding how to make sure your vista firewall is setup correctly. There is a portion of the How-To for vista network configuration. If you setup McAfee for both port allowance and on the utorrent.exe it is possible either has changed in the meantime. If you're unsure about other security software, you can always follow the procedure from Ultima's How-To and copy-paste the HiJackThis txt logfile below
pingu_turbo Posted January 8, 2008 Author Report Posted January 8, 2008 Right ive read this how to guide again and found a link to this site for installing a patch:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/04/09/windows-vista-tcpipsys-connection-limit-patch-for-event-id-4226/Ive gone though the instructions and downloaded this patch, tcpip.sys, and it instructs,"Open command prompt, and run the following 2 commands: 1. takeown /f c:\windows\system32\drivers\tcpip.sys2. cacls c:\windows\system32\drivers\tcpip.sys /G "username":FReplace username with the actual user name that used to log on to Windows Vista currently."so i bring up the command prompt, put the command in, and it says "cannot run in win 32 mode"what does that mean? where am i supposed to type these commands in?cheers
pingu_turbo Posted January 10, 2008 Author Report Posted January 10, 2008 I dont have 64bit vista.... There is a download patch for it anyways Ok, so I was about to give up and just uninstall utorrent. I was going through my windows firewall settings, making sure utorrent had access. I scrolled to the bottom of the list and found "windows peer to peer collaboration foundation" so i enabled it. Success! it works, uploads, finds trackers. All be it not very fast. Probably something to do with the torrent. Ill fine tune now. Thanks for the help, you'll probably be requesting help again! lol
