0rion79 Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 hi all, this is my first time here, so I'm not sure if I'm writing in the right area.I have a probelm with uTorrent, latest version, because when i switch off my PC and then turn it on again, uTorrent looks unable to take back the connection with the previously active downloads.Maybe it starts with the yellow triangle, that eventually turns into the green circle that says "Network ok", but there are nor uploads nor downloads and 0 seeds. It has been so for two days, now I've turned it on again and it is downloading again, but only one file and it has the red icon and not blue.Is it normal? I expected uTorrent not being subjected to the same e-mule troubles!!thank you!PS: I'm using a Tele2.it connection, do I need Encryption active?
jewelisheaven Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 Hello and welcome First, what is the "tracker status" message you see under the General tab for the torrents with the red icon? Second, are you looking at the ALL category under the category pane (F7)? I don't have much experience with your ISP but I would say enabling encryption under Ctrl-P -> BitTorrent is a good idea. What kind of connection statistics are you getting on the blue-icon torrent? For example on my current torrent I am connected to Peers: 25 of 1200 (2250 in swarm) Seeds: 10 of 200 (650 in swarm). What kind of flags do you see under the "Peers" tab?Have you used the Setup Guide to configure your connection already?
0rion79 Posted January 5, 2008 Author Report Posted January 5, 2008 "What is the "tracker status" message you see under the General tab for the torrents with the red icon?"Update in: updatingDHT Status: not allowed"What kind of connection statistics are you getting on the blue-icon torrent?"0 seeds and 0 peers, but when I left the program the last time, it had quite a lot seeds and going to a decent speed (40-50kb/s)"What kind of flags do you see under the "Peers" tab?"None"Have you used the Setup Guide to configure your connection already?"Yes, and by fact I've completed some downloads at a decent speed, the problem is this weird fact that, when i reboot my PC and start uToorent again, the program looks unable to start the download again from where it has left it.Hope my answers may help!
ajones81 Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 Are your ports still forwarded properly (Ctrl+G)? What firewall/antivirus/other security software do you use?Can you try the OpenOffice torrent (http://distribution.openoffice.org/p2p/index.html) and post the results here?
0rion79 Posted January 14, 2008 Author Report Posted January 14, 2008 Sorry, being very busy with work... so, yes, my ports look ok and I'm not using any firewall, but simply Avira Antivir PE.Downloading O.Office looks ok: host-1d.d4.bb.d4.auto.velocix.com:65155It is going fine, so I wonder what's going on: may it due to the source, if my uTorrent is not able to recover a previous download?
ajones81 Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 If OpenOffice is downloading fine, your Network Status icon at the bottom is green and you're getting decent speeds, your setup is ok. The problem must lie with the torrent swarms/trackers then.
0rion79 Posted January 14, 2008 Author Report Posted January 14, 2008 So nothing with which I can deal, right? Any advice?
ajones81 Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Do all the things I just mentioned above hold true? Which trackers are those stuck torrents using? We use the OpenOffice and SlackWare torrents to test connections as they're known to have healthy swarms that generally max out connections. If those work fine, then there's not much that can be done with the stuck torrents. Also, is your ISP BitTorrent hostile by any chance?Do make sure Avira doesn't have a (hidden) firewall component blocking uTorrent. Check your router for a firewall as well, though since your ports are forwarded fine, I guess that should be ok.
