fiend69 Posted January 5, 2008 Report Posted January 5, 2008 Extremely large Fonts that I can not change!I seem to be having an issue with the 1.8 version of utorrent (all builds) and Win Vista w/120 DPI enabled. I browsed through other posts but coudlnt seem to find the exact problem with a working solution. I do not have the option of switiching back to 96 DPI because of viewing limiations on my TV. Is there a fix to get the font back to a normal size with 120 DPI enabled with Vista? I am currently running build 7491
jewelisheaven Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 Your problem is expressed in the 1.8 thread http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=31998 and from user feedback no the sizing stays constant with using non-standard DPI It's funny to me now that the developers try to make uT take as much from your windows setup as possible (infinite customization) that people are asking for it to be the way it was, heh. So much for the age of personalization </rant>Perhaps some of these changes in 1.8 can be made into buttons or switches or advanced options, but I wouldn't expect any headway before at least a beta build. You can feel free to link your post HERE in the 1.8 thread, but I would ask that you try to contribute additional questions (so read the other posts relating to DPI issues first)... recent off-topic threads have gotten certain people mad :* and we don't want to keep them mad do we? Maybe after the spring I'll get the nerve to tackle Vista, but by then it seems all of the problems on 1.8 will be done.
Ultima Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 DPI-awareness is a feature that I highly doubt will be togglable. If µTorrent looks that way, don't your other applications as well?
phantomc Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 I have the same problem with 1.8 alpha so I switched back to 1.7.5. In fact I was using custom 144% DPI which looked even worse.Other programs don't look like crap, only utorrent does I'm sure this font thingy will be fixed before beta or final release.
Firon Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Many programs look fine because they don't respect DPI settings. µT does now.
Ultima Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 The DPI setting is normally used by people who have some kind of visual impairment that cause them to be unable to read text of a certain size (or maybe people who have small screens with high native monitor resolutions), and need some way to change the font size for everything on the screen. Respecting global Windows settings is a Good Thing™ because it makes the application usable for those users as well. This isn't something to be fixed, unless the font size is too large (even larger than the DPI setting would normally make DPI-aware applications' text become). In that case, a clearer screenshot would be much more helpful.
Ryan Norton Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Could people with the problem post some screenshots of 1.7.5 and the current 1.8 alpha? It would help us a lot.
diadomraz Posted January 25, 2008 Report Posted January 25, 2008 Yes, DPI is used mostly by people who are visually impaired, but that's because most people out there don't even know what it stands for. This is one of the most important visual settings, because it is used by Win32 to determine how many dots make up one inch with your current display size settings. You can easily observe the difference in the mainstream 17'' and 19'' 4:3 LCD displays - regardless of the difference in their sizes, they typically share the same fixed resolution of 1280:1024. Laptop displays make things even worse, since their resolutions go even higher, while the screen size remains relatively small. Here are some screenshots. The screenshot on the right is from 1.6, and the left one is from the alpha. This issue appeared when 1.7 came out and I have reported it twice since 1.7.3.
darkultra Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 (or maybe people who have small screens with high native monitor resolutions), and need some way to change the font size for everything on the screen. Respecting global Windows settings is a Good Thing™ because it makes the application usable for those users as well. Not to mention laptops. About 1/3 have a very high DPI screen, and ships with high DPI setting. The higher the DPI of the screen, the better it looks when running at non-native resolutions. For example if a new game is too slow to run at native resolution of your flat panel.Theres two high DPI modes for Windows, one XP mode and one Vista mode.
Firon Posted May 8, 2008 Report Posted May 8, 2008 1.6 completely ignored DPI setting. That's why the font looks normal.
