bojangling Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 The uTorrent Setup Guide says I should "Select the listing closest to my upload speed result". From DSLreports.com speed test I get the following:Download: Average between 6000-7000 Kb/sUpload: Average between 1100-1200 Kb/sI then use the default settings for uTorrent 1.7.5 except I use the "Speed Guide" and use under "Connection Type" I select "xx/1Mbit".However, I have found if I move the "Connection Type" down I get faster download speeds. The download speed seems to peak for me at to "xx/384k". Is this normal? Should I really keep it at "xx/1Mbit"?Thanks for the help.
jewelisheaven Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 You will get faster downloads the faster you upload (theoretically) due to other peers reciprocating your uploads with THEIR uploads (your downloads).
bojangling Posted January 6, 2008 Author Report Posted January 6, 2008 Would there be any reason this isn't the case?Guess I can try it out for a while at 1Mbit. Any way to log the results and compare with different connection types?
jewelisheaven Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 The Speed tab allows storing / viewing of 10 hours worth of data ... but is only applicable on the current session (since uT has been started).Edit: A main reason this isn't the case is the peers on the swarm... If there are no peers in it with huge upload pipes (.jp .se .no .fi included) then you're unlikely to generally receive that much from one single peer.
Switeck Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 ComCast's SpeedBoost foils most "honest" bandwidth tests. You cannot SUSTAIN 1 megabits/sec upload speed, that's just a temporary burst up to about 1 minute. You really only have 384 kilobits/sec sustainable upload speed.
bojangling Posted January 6, 2008 Author Report Posted January 6, 2008 Hadn't though of speedboost but that answers it. Thanks.
Switeck Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 I only know this because I've got it myself and took me a few weeks to figure out what the heck was going on.At first I thought I got a really big upload speed increase...
bojangling Posted January 9, 2008 Author Report Posted January 9, 2008 Yeah, while I appreciate the answer it is a big letdown.
jewelisheaven Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 And nothing short of the cable companies fessing up about their "transparent technology" which "increases user experience" will make it less so
