ajones81 Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 Currently, selecting multiple torrents and try to change their download location works similar to performing the action one-by-one on those torrents in that the dialog does pop up repeatedly.Suppose I want to set the download location for a bunch of torrents to the same directory, it would be really nice to have an option wherein I could select the new location only once rather than having to go through the same routine and navigate to the same dir. so many times.Since both are useful acc. to the situation and have the ability to save time, how about two new menu items instead of "Set download location", namely, "Set single download location" and "Set multiple download locations", with the latter appearing grayed out unless multiple torrents have actually been selected?
jewelisheaven Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 Batch change download location request? AGREED Understand however that, i THINK, right now when you are doing it, it would work exactly the same way as if .. say you were in .\Completed and you wanted to go to ..\Completed2.You COULD (current functionality) make a shortcut for Completed2 in Completed, and click twice to do the same job as (your request) selecting Completed2 for the first torrent, and then ticking some box which says "do for all selected jobs in batch".(Note: I did the shortcut method, on 60 jobs, which TBH isn't that bad, 60 mouse clicks and 60 Enter key presses)
ajones81 Posted January 6, 2008 Author Report Posted January 6, 2008 I'm sorry, I didn't get you. You say I should create a shortcut to the common new destination dir. in the current dir. and then select it every time? But in the set download location dialog only folders are shown and not shortcuts. So how did you select the shortcut every time that dialog popped up?Also, consider this - you have diff. torrents downloading to diff. dirs., but you want to consolidate and move them all to a common dir. Where do you make the shortcuts and how many?Actually, I also love your suggestion of a checkbox at the bottom of the dialog for batch mode. Checking that would ensure the setting is replicated for all other selected torrents and so the dialog would be shown only once. The checkbox would of course be grayed out if only a single torrent was selected. This way, the menu stays as-is.It's a win-win situation IMO!
jewelisheaven Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 Hrmm to tell you the truth I don't think I ever tried that with that supposedly-existing tree-view. I've only come across it when adding (no default save - Ctrl-D) and it pops up the tree-view folders-only from My Computer pathing down to my current folder (it was a pain not even being able to use an "add folder" button there)... which way is gui.addpre_uselistview supposed to be set to see this folders-only?I'm sorry by my recommendation, it wouldn't work if you still have to copy the data from START to END. And if you're consolidating as you say... yea, my idea wouldn't work. Perhaps it can be implemented to the re-target feature? I havn't noticed, is that a standard dialog... I would think adding any checkboxes in the pop-up would require custom dialogs, and I know how the nice-and-smart-and-genius developers dislike "custom", heh Frell, new columns means testing new implementations/sorting/graphical stuff.
Firon Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 Eventually it'll be possible to move multiple torrents/files at once in 1.8 with only a single dialog.
ajones81 Posted January 6, 2008 Author Report Posted January 6, 2008 Good to know Ultima, thanks! That will be really useful. However, what if someone needs to move multiple torrents/files to different locations as is possible at present? Currently, every time the dialog pops up for every selected torrent, you can give a different path. That does save some time at least over right-clicking a torrent, setting a download location, right-clicking the next torrent and so on...I thought jewel's suggestion (of having a checkbox for batch mode in the set download location dialog) was really good as it achieves both functionalities with minimal fuss and changes. My suggestion of 2 separate menu options should work as well. Any hints on how the devs are looking to implement the requested functionality?P.S. jewel, I'm not talking about the Ctrl+D add torrent dialog. I'm talking about the dialog for Set download location in the torrent context menu, to wit:And here's what it'll look like acc. to your suggestion (and my recommendation):Though we have to see what the devs have planned...P.S. gui.addpre_uselistview is new in 1.8 I guess, 'cos I couldn't spot it anywhere in 1.7.5 where I took those screenshots from.
Ultima Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Good to know Ultima, thanks! That will be really useful.Firon != Ultima ;DI also asked Ryan about this probably a month ago, but have since forgot his response. I seriously doubt the SHBrowseForFolder can/will be modified to show that checbox.
jewelisheaven Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Heh, Hi Ultima You didn't weigh in on the issue though. You know Firon's response isn't necessarily talking about this:Eventually it'll be possible to move multiple torrents/files at once in 1.8 with only a single dialog.I thought moving was done external to uT unless the torrent job is completed and following the "move download when completed" folder option. This request seems to be applicable in one or the other or both cases where people utilize "Set download location" or "Relocate".Edit: It also seems counter-intuitive that one would be able to tell uT to look for specific torrent jobs' torrents elsewhere from within the program since the path is now hard-set in resume.dat
Ultima Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 Hm? I thought the fact that I asked Ryan about it in the first place was my weigh in? (It means I also brought the issue about batch relocation up to Ryan)As for what Firon's referring to, I'm not entirely sure, as I haven't seen the discussion on the matter (or at least I don't think I have... O.o). I don't know how they plan on implementing it, but I'm fairly certain it won't be by modifying the SHBrowseForFolder dialog. I wouldn't have too many qualms with ajones81's initial proposal... were it not for the fact that having 2 near-identically-named/functioning menu items might get ugly/confusing.
ajones81 Posted January 7, 2008 Author Report Posted January 7, 2008 Firon != Ultima ;DWhoops! Sorry Ultima... Just goes to show ya what sleep deprivation can do! Hmm, if the dialog can't be modified, and having 2 menu items is also not on the cards (the confusion aspect was what made me enthusiastic about jewel's suggestion for a modified dialog in the first place), then I guess Firon/Ryan have to tell us how the implementation is planned for this specific feature.
