Nearati Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 Hi.I had an old torrent file with the already downloaded data. I clicked the torrent file (to add it in µTorrent) - the "Add new torrent" dialog window appeared. I checked "Start torrent", the data files were checked by default, clicked OK and the program deleted the data that was already there - no hash check, no seed.. then, it started downloading. Well, actually, it started looking for peers, but since it took weeks to download everything the first time, I guess I'll be waiting weeks again. Is this how µTorrent is supposed to work?/N
jewelisheaven Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 Can I ask if you saw "Checking..." status during this time, or not?No, deleting files should not be a part of the add-torrent dialog. Are you sure it is not pathed wrong. Verify by stop, right-click, advanced, change download location. Then try START again, and it will proceed through Checking 0.0% -> 100.0% then start from whatever percent of VALID pieces you have.
Firon Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 If you pointed it to the correct folder, it would've done a hashcheck. If it started from 0, then all the data did not match. If you did not point it to the right folder, then it would've started fresh.
Nearati Posted January 6, 2008 Author Report Posted January 6, 2008 Well.. I did put it in the correct folder (the same where I put all torrents). It didn't hash check, just renamed to *.!ut and said 0.0% downloaded. I just tried making a copy of the file, removing .!ut and extracting, but it's corrupt.New try with another torrent (made backup this time), and it works as you say. However, I noticed that the old torrent had about 200 errors in the log when I started it (ReadFile error:)..What would happen if the old file was corrupted from the start?
jewelisheaven Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 readfile errors usually mean it's the wrong file / mismatched filesize. I still have the inclination that whatever file you thought you were pointing it at before wasn't the file you ACTUALLy pointed it at, but if you have no backup / other copy somewhere you will have to restart the download from scratch. Have you tried searching in windows or a command prompt to see if it was saved somewhere you did not expect?
Nearati Posted January 6, 2008 Author Report Posted January 6, 2008 Hmm.. it was a long time ago I used this file last time, but I know where I have the stuff on my harddrive. Anyway - found the package in another place (online), so it's okay for now. Going to burn a backup..Thanks for your time.. and.. sorry to have bothered you.
jewelisheaven Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 I can't speak for anyone else, especially Firon, but you're welcome, and hey, if you liked being helped when asked, why not pay it forward to someone else This place is about community of helping and it just so happens to be the place easiest to talk to and be around those innovating with the bittorrent protocol
